I was assigned unit G208 through RCI. My grandparents used to own at the Banyan for 30 years before selling, I know this complex (and this particular building) well. I know the critters and creepy crawlies. I've had random centipedes creep into ground floor condos and I don't hold it against anyone because why would I... its Hawaii! I know sugar ants happen sometimes regardless of efforts. But this was different. Checked in around 1230pm, left for volunteer work after getting my things in the room. It looked fine. Arrived back at 945pm, found normal sized ants (not tiny sugar ants) everywhere. TV cabinet, bedside tables, bedframe, inside bedroom dresser, on dining room table, etc. Took photos and called the remote front desk immediately. Was moved to a studio for the night, told I had to move again the next day. Housekeeping came to speak with me the next morning, she did not understand how ants could be nocturnal, and told me they were spiders despite seeing obvious photos. I could not believe how dismissive she was when speaking to me despite the obvious that was right infront of her! I was moved to another studio when given the option to move to the studio in another building or to the 1bdrm directly below the infested unit, G108. As no one did anything to assure me the ants had been dealt with and knowing ants, I told them this 1 bdrm was less acceptable, also knowing it was the worst unit in their rental pool and would also be a downgrade (which Soleil rep agreed with me on). I went with the one least likely to cause more issues, which was the only option they gave not sharing a wall with the infested unit. No spraying had been done, as I was told a pest company could not be even called until Monday and the housekeeper I spoke with did not seem to understand the nature of the ants. In order to get my new key and be able to have a place to stay on the island during a very busy March, Soleil Management made me sign a form saying they took no responsibility for the room change and I can't ask them for refund or compensation. Maui Banyan told me they only give keys and have no responsibility. RCI told me over the phone I would be compensated for the difference between the studio and 1 bdrm. I called Soleil Management when I was asked to sign the form by the Banyan front desk (they are not onsite) and they assured me that I can still be refunded by RCI and this was just because they only help manage but it's RCI's property. I was told if any 1 bdrm opened up I would be contacted, but I never was. When I contacted RCI to ask about compensation for the studio as I only booked at the Banyan for a 1 bdrm (I also had to throw out $75 worth of food I had purchased to fill a normal sized fridge, had no proper kitchen for food prep, no washer and dryer, and was so cramped), I was told tough luck, I got what I got, and that I should have gone for G108, literally right below the infested unit I was in. This made no sense. It goes against what I wa
