"Our room had a mountain view, and it was nice and open with a wide view of the sky. The room was spacious and there was a sofa, and there was plenty of room to spread out our carrier. Best of all, there was no step to get to the unit bath! I think this is rare and really appreciated. The water pressure in the shower in the private room was good and we could switch it on, which was great. As we were on top of the mountain, the path to get there was rough and there were monkeys around, so we hurried to get there before the sun went down, and we weren't able to buy dinner in town, so we had to eat cup ramen. It would have been nice if the convenience store, which is open until 9pm, had a few more options for late-night snacks."

"Overall, Kizunoniwa is definitely better than Konoha. Dinner was a delicious Japanese meal served in a private dining room, and breakfast was also good. My only minor complaint was that the rice wasn't quite up to Japanese standards. The location is quite far out. If you're heading to Ueno Station in the city, leaving the hotel at 9 AM and having a smooth journey, you'd likely arrive around 1 PM. The hotel shuttle takes ten minutes to the bus stop, then it's an hour and a half by bus to Karuizawa, and another hour-plus from Karuizawa to Ueno. The main delays are due to waiting for various connection times. It snowed on our second day, which was truly beautiful. I'd love to come back during autumn leaf season if possible."

"It took me 20 minutes to walk from the station. I thought it would be a quick walk, but it was snowing and the roads were slippery, so I struggled with my luggage to get to the hotel. The room was very clean and spacious, and the heating was excellent. The hotel has a hot spring, but I didn't get to use it. Unfortunately, the soundproofing was poor at night; the Japanese man next door was talking loudly past 1 AM, and I could hear people walking around in wooden clogs outside my door. I didn't get any sleep all night..."

"Very nice modern hotel at Kusatsu hotel and nice Onsen which is not too overcrowded. Near walking distance to main spot. Nice reception with English speaking staff and open car park next to entrance of hotel. Able to use older sister hotel facilities also."

"The room was clean and very clean. The scent of wooden wood was very comfortable. I had to drive to procure ingredients because there was no supermarket nearby, but I was saved because the seasoning in the room was relatively substantial."

"We stayed at Naraya Ryokan as a family of four for two nights and three days, and the experience exceeded our expectations from the moment we arrived. We were greeted immediately upon check in, and the staff took time to clearly explain the facilities, meals, and schedule, making the entire process smooth and welcoming. We personally communicated with the staff in Japanese, which made interactions especially seamless. We also observed the staff making genuine efforts to assist other guests in English. While English is not their first language, their willingness to accommodate and ensure guests felt comfortable was evident and appreciated. The ryokan itself is beautifully maintained, offering a calm and traditional atmosphere with thoughtful details throughout. One highlight not to be missed is the coffee spot attached to the lobby, which is an excellent place to relax. Their take on affogato is especially memorable and well worth trying. Dining at Naraya Ryokan is a traditional set menu experience that showcases seasonal Japanese cuisine. Guests should be prepared to enjoy authentic, traditional dishes that reflect regional ingredients and seasonal flavors. Each meal felt carefully prepared and added depth to the overall ryokan experience. Our stay felt unhurried and restorative, and we would have gladly stayed an additional night if our itinerary had allowed. Naraya Ryokan comes highly recommended, and we would happily return for another stay in the future."

"Overall, the hotel looks clean, but the room was dusty in places. The location is excellent, literally 2 minutes from the city center. The staff are extremely helpful, really great people. Unfortunately, they hardly speak any English. In our opinion, the price of breakfast and dinner doesn't match the quality."

"Best place we have stayed in Gunma. Walking distance to tourist attractions and shuttle around Kusatsu going to the bus station. Restaurants, souvenir shops, and a 7-eleven around Kusatsu. Some restaurants might close early around 8PM. We love the experience of going around Kusatsu with the Yukata and slippers, just be mindful to have extra clothing underneath because it was cold during our stay and the Yukata might still be not enough. Vegetarian breakfast and welcome drinks available and included. They also have a restaurant wherein you can dip your feet while eating, if you like to experience. You also have a private hot tub. Room is spacious and feels elegant. Staffs are helpful and smiles always. Would definitely recommend for future stays."

"We stayed for three nights during the Obon holiday this summer. Both the owner and the manager were incredibly kind, and thanks to them, we had a very comfortable stay. We opted for the breakfast and dinner plan, and I was a little worried if our two elementary school children would find anything they liked, but we decided to make it an experience. As it turned out, they managed to eat quite a few things. Coincidentally, there was a flute performance on one of the days, and enjoying our meal with the beautiful music was absolutely delightful! In the summer, there's a shaved ice service in the lounge. Our kids would stop by after dinner or after their onsen bath, and eat shaved ice at the counter like regulars. The onsen (hot spring) varied between lukewarm and hot. When I asked the owner, he explained that the temperature of the spring water changes daily, so it's not a fixed temperature. Sometimes you expect it to be hot and it's lukewarm, or you think it'll be lukewarm and it's hot – you really couldn't predict it! (laughs) In terms of location, the hotel was very convenient for our travel plans, with canyoning, rafting, Mogura Station, and michi-no-eki (roadside stations) all nearby. The photo shows the shelf visible from the counter seats. It's full of the owner's favorite alcoholic beverages (laughs). He's apparently happy to chat if you'd like company, so why not say hello? ^_^ On the evening of the third day, we booked the table tennis table and enjoyed a family game after dinner. Playing table tennis in yukata was a lot of fun for the whole family! They also have karaoke, apparently! (laughs) We saw some reviews mentioning communication issues with foreign staff, but they used their phones to communicate, and they were always quick to respond, so it wasn't an issue for us at all. It's a place we'd love to visit again if we have the chance. We really enjoyed our three-night stay in a clean room. Thank you so much for everything!"
