Mercure Ax Les Thermes

"We are travelling through Europe this summer, and this is the second - and last - Mercure Hotel on our itinerary. Unfortunately, we have discovered that “Mountain View” does NOT mean a view of the mountains, but rather a view of the car park, the building opposite (specifically its fire‑escape staircase), and a few trees. The hotel itself is quite new, and the rooms are spacious, clean, and modern. However, on arrival we were assigned a ground‑floor room where half the hotel guests would walk directly past our terrace with a full view into the room. Thankfully, because we arrived early (the hotel was fully booked), we were able to switch to a room on the second floor. The view was still as described above, but at least we didn’t have people constantly passing by. Both rooms we were given had connecting doors with a rather shocking “peephole” in the centre. Even though it’s covered, you can slide it open and potentially look straight into your neighbour’s room, and the lack of soundproofing makes every noise next door clearly audible. This is now the second Mercure property where, despite a hefty price tag of 700 Euros for three nights - and that’s the members’ rate (!) - the room provided does not match what is advertised. I’m giving three stars, not fewer, thanks to the friendly reception staff (who are simply doing their job) and the pleasant room itself. But a note to the Accor Group’s General Managers: this is the second Mercure hotel where the room category shown in the photos is NOT what guests actually receive. It’s time for your marketing teams to address these misleading practices."
