First of all, it is quite far from everything, difficult to reach anything by walking especially in summer when Hong Kong in steamy. Good thing are the shuttle services every 30 minutes to a nearby mall and subway. There’s another subway station 10-15 minutes walking.
The marketing looks great but it's a dream vs reality kind of experience. The hotel is old and you can smell the humidity as soon as you reach your floor. The AC system is old, moldy and not properly working if you want to put it at 21 degree instead of 16, which means you whether die of cold or suffer from the heat.
The hotel has a self laundry service area which is a nice thought but we didn't check it out.
It is a hotel used mostly from mainland people and their organized tourist groups, so don’t expect any service of standard hotels. Everything for these type of customers is subject to additional charge, from plug adapters to cutlery to eat in the room! No one will do anything for free for you, unless you get very mad (my wife did as she was with our baby and needed help). Staff at the reception are like robots, you better solve the issues by yourself. The only nice staff were the cleaning lady.
There's always a queue and huge crowd at the elevator which can be annoying, might need to wait 20 minutes to go up. Probably because it was Summer so it was packed of guests from China.
The concierge can't bring deliveries upstairs to your room (even if you are alone with a newborn baby!) When I asked why, I got a bland : "hotel policy". I don't think they even know why.
We got the suite, quite dirty (HK standard poor lever of cleaning, if you move a furniture you’ll find everything possible) and also probably hotel had bed bugs before and we were unsure about the additional pillows that were given to us (although we checked and there were none, but I had a big red bite on my finger). Breakfast (expensive!) was disgusting, inedible, lots of processed food bought at the 7/11 and warmed up, tasted like plastic.
The only good thing is the kids playground, clean and full of different themed toy rooms (not free, of course).
POOL: Even if it was a nice highlight as it has a side for kids,it needs to be maintained better. You can literally see mold delimitation of the water level all around the pool and on the water structures. But the most important part is that the area surrounding the pool is super slippery and dangerous so watch out. Note : no sun except from 10.30 till 1pm. The pool is surrounded by 4 high-rise buildings.
Only pro is the room rate, quite cheap for HK standards… but it come with a price, and they’ll make you pay for any single additional service you might ask and expect to be free at a hotel like Dorsett.
