Secondly, the hotel's cleanliness is impeccable. The breakfast and the evening dessert feel homemade, a really nice touch. If you're driving, don't let the people at the village entrance stop you. Just tell them you're staying at Yun Du, and you can drive your car right up to the visitor center, which makes things much easier."

"This time I was traveling alone and just wanted to find a quiet place to stay for a few days. Wenzhaoju was affordable, the rooms were clean, and the owner and host were very kind. If you had any questions, you should always ask immediately, otherwise you'd end up going the wrong way. Most of the people I met during this trip were so kind and welcoming. I even forgot to leave a review several days after returning. Service: Since the inn is run by the owner and his wife, they handle the cleaning and reception. You might not be able to get a prompt response to inquiries sent via the platform, but you can call and the owner will patiently answer. Environment: Even if you're lugging your suitcases, the Wenzhao Street entrance is not far or tiring. It's not far from Wangjia Liangfen and Shuanggaimao, and it's also close to nearby attractions. There's a snack bar across from the inn that serves delicious cold noodles. Cleanliness: The owner and his wife clean the house themselves. They wash the sheets, quilts, and towels at home and hang them out to dry on the balcony, so you can be completely assured. Facilities: Because this is an old building, the soundproofing is definitely not very good. They reminded me several times before check-in because the wooden structure doesn't provide good sound insulation. The room comes with earplugs. Most inns in the ancient city are made of wood. If you're concerned about noise, I recommend staying outside the city. There's a balcony on the third floor. During my stay, I felt comfortable sitting on it every day with the breeze as the sun was setting. It gets a bit cooler as the sun gets dark. The owner and his wife are very nice and kind. They patiently answer any questions I have. The kitchen is available for use. During my seven-day stay, the owner's wife always refilled my water bottle, worried I wasn't getting enough. They were very generous. They've done their best to provide daily necessities in the room for the current price, and they haven't raised their prices during the summer vacation. Even though they're so busy every day, they still keep it spotless. Most of the guests are also very nice. A sister I met on the way happened to be staying here. She originally booked one night, but after seeing the clean and comfortable environment, she immediately booked two. If you're a serious mysophobe and demand high sleep and service, you should look elsewhere. It's impossible to ask for 300-500 yuan for a place that costs just over 100 yuan or 150 yuan. Most places that cost 300-500 yuan don't offer the same comfort as Wenzhaoju. The owner and his wife's service and emotional value far outweigh the price. Many people come to these places to find comfort, relaxation and the local simplicity. I hope some people will not exploit the simplicity and kindness of the boss and the boss. Opening the window reveals layers of distant mountains and rice paddies; the scenery is incredibly therapeutic! The most convenient part is being able to park right at the entrance, which is fantastic for those driving. It's just a few minutes' walk to the main street of the ancient town, offering a perfect balance of quietude and accessibility. The owner was warm and attentive, providing excellent recommendations for food and routes. I sincerely recommend this place to anyone visiting Shaxi; staying here will definitely enhance your trip!"

"A beautiful guesthouse with a lovely and serene inner courtyard and modern, renovated accommodations and facilities! Shaxi is not large, so from this guesthouse location, we were able to easily walk around the streets of Shaxi. Perfect location! It's in the heart of the village, so from where our driver dropped us off (our previous guesthouse in Dali helped us arrange a carpool to Shaxi), we still had to walk around ~7-10 minutes. The streets of Shaxi are the cobblestone type, so it wasn't easy to bring our heavy luggage over (needed to carry it by hand, which was strenuous, tiring, and slow). To prepare, I had asked on trip.com messaging if there was anything to know before we got there and had even informed them about our arrival time ahead of time, but unfortunately didn't know this would be an issue - it would have been nice if they told us before and offered to help. But apparently you can tell the guesthouse if you do need help, and they can assist you with your luggage when you first arrive (they might have a luggage cart). When we left, the ladies helped us with our suitcases, which was definitely appreciated. Additionally, the staff helped arrange a carpool to Lijiang for the next day. Staff was nice in person. The room is perfectly comfortable and clean, with a very modern and fancy bathroom. I found the beds quite comfortable; it was perfect for two. Though the room is on the first floor, it wasn't loud or noisy. The breakfast was also surprisingly really nice (we opted for sandwiches and some noodles, I think I picked er si), including fruit, corn, and sweet potato. Got served a beautiful latte with refined latte art too. We really liked just sitting around in the courtyard too after walking around the village; the way they've designed it is so tranquil and relaxing, perfectly fitting with the ambiance of Shaxi. There was also a friendly cat (apparently not owned by the guesthouse, but the cat likes visiting often) roaming around. Note: Even though this review in English, we spoke to the staff in Chinese. It seems other foreign guests have stayed here before too though! Overall, would recommend!"

"Service here was impeccable. Great location, tucked in a little alley off the main street with well, newly renovated rooms. Didn't take photos of the rooms but can honestly say the photos listed online are very accurate and look even better in person! The hostess here was very accommodating and very helpful. Breakfast was amazing, a variety consisting of Yunnan noodles, hot cup of soy/milk, fruit, egg and a bun. Extras given when asked. Had an issue of purchasing coach tickets to Lijiang, the hostess assisted in putting her contact number down so my partner and I could buy tickets. Also gave us souvenirs when checking out. Would definitely stay here again and recommend the place to all."

"I usually prefer staying in chain hotels when I travel, never B&Bs. But since Shaxi Ancient Town only has guesthouses, I had to be very careful with my choice. What first drew me in was the name, 'A Cloud' (一朵云). While not as elaborate as some other guesthouse names, its simple charm really appealed to me. It made me feel like the owner must truly love life. Then, I checked the reviews and saw that all the toiletries were Japanese, mostly Kao products. If they pay such close attention to detail and use high-quality brands for even the smallest items, I figured everything else would be excellent too. And sure enough, my stay didn't disappoint. From the moment I checked in, it was clear a lot of money had been spent on the decor, and it was impeccably clean. The owner had thought of absolutely everything you could possibly need: disposable toilet seat covers, wet wipes, soft tissue paper, facial cleanser, makeup remover, laundry detergent, hand soap, shampoo, conditioner, hair oil, body wash, and body lotion. "The landlord’s sister contacted me many days in advance to make sure that I would pick me up when I arrived in Shaxi. It was my sister’s husband who picked me up. After arriving, the landlord’s grandmother also fried me fried rice with fungus, and after eating, she asked my granddaughter to bring me a piece of corn grown by herself. The experience of traveling alone in the first few stops was very poor. On the first night I came to Shaxi, I felt the enthusiasm and warmth of the landlord’s family. I had fried rice at four o’clock and called me to have dinner together at six o’clock. The little sister also took the initiative to give me food. After eating, the landlord’s sister took me for a ride. Introduce me to Shaxi, chatting and eating fruit on the small terrace at night. The unhappy experience that had accumulated in Dali before dissipated on the first day of the stay, and was watered with love by the Bai villagers. It was quiet at night and the bedding was very soft. Because it is relatively new, all the lights and shower equipment are very comfortable. Even at night, there are lights by the bed, which wins many high-end hotels. After getting up the next morning, I ate the rice noodles prepared by the landlord’s grandmother. I wanted to go out in the afternoon. The landlord sister gave me an electric car to ride, and it rained heavily behind. The landlord sister also picked me up and back to the ancient town. "Seriously recommending this amazing hidden gem in the ancient town! It was hands down the best surprise of my entire trip ✨ The butler service was incredibly thoughtful and attentive. Even before check-in, they proactively sent a detailed guide with routes, must-see spots, and tips to avoid common pitfalls, saving me the hassle of planning everything myself. The whole experience was fantastic. The room was spotless, clean and bright, with soft and comfortable bedding that felt amazing to sink into after a long day of travel, instantly melting away all my fatigue. I had a wonderfully peaceful night's sleep. The breakfast was absolutely delicious, with fresh ingredients and authentic flavors. Enjoying a meal in such a pleasant atmosphere in the morning truly filled me with joy. The guesthouse itself had a wonderful vibe, tucked away in the ancient town, quiet and serene, far from the hustle and bustle. The walls, with their weathered textures, made you feel like you'd stepped back in time to the ancient Tea Horse Road, as if you could almost hear the camel bells of old caravans. The whole atmosphere was simply incredible. The service, environment, and food and accommodation were all top-notch. It was a truly immersive experience of the ancient town's slow pace. I'll definitely choose this place again next time, and I've already highly recommended it to all my friends!"

"A delightful surprise! This guesthouse is right next to the East Gate, and just a short walk from there you'll find Yujin Bridge and the ancient theater. It's a charming, rustic courtyard with warm and friendly service. In the morning, they serve delicious E'er rice noodles. I originally booked for one night but immediately extended for another after seeing the place. The front desk lady even upgraded my room to one with a small balcony. Right outside my back window was a bougainvillea wall, perfect for photos, and there was even an introduction to 'Jiama' (paper horses) on the wall. Every step in the ancient town offers a new scenic view. In the mornings and evenings, you can stroll outside the old town to admire the distant mountains and rice paddies. They even gave me a parking subsidy when I left. Shaxi is definitely worth staying in for a few extra days!"
