My 3-year-old child and I are from Hong Kong. This is our first time staying here, and we were pleasantly surprised by how friendly all the staff are. The restaurant dishes are very fresh, beautifully presented, and absolutely delicious. The private hot spring in the room is incredibly comfortable. We had a wonderful night with our child.

Otaru is truly a small town. The hotel is right across the street from Otaru Station, and there's a large shopping mall directly opposite, which has a big supermarket and a Don Quijote on the upper floors. If you walk straight down the main road, you'll reach the sea. I recommend taking the Shukutsu Cruise (Shukutsu Koro). The boat is operated by Otaru Marine Tourism Boat 'Aobato' and takes you along the rocky coast on the Sea of Japan side. You can disembark at Shukutsu to visit the aquarium. The hotel has been recently renovated, so the facilities are new. Even though the rooms are not huge, the layout is very well-designed. It's comfortable to stay in, and there's enough space for luggage. The breakfast is excellent, with a wide variety of fresh items, many of which are Otaru specialties. The vegetables in the soup curry were especially delicious, and the mame daifuku dessert was superb. The hotel's Onsen, 'Tomo no Yu', is also unique. The outdoor area has a natural breeze and a woody fragrance, offering both privacy and a very natural atmosphere. It's not a large space, but the layout is very clever. I highly recommend the sauna and cold plunge pool (mizuburo). The nightly 'Yonaki Soba' (free soba noodles) is worth the wait; it's absolutely delicious!

The location is quite nice, just a 10–15 minute walk to the main shopping street. The hotel uses a self-service check-in system, but the process is straightforward and not difficult at all. The room is surprisingly spacious, with a kitchen and laundry area, which was very convenient. However, the bed sheets and bedding are quite old, so it would be great if the owner could consider replacing them with new ones. The main issue during our stay was the gas canisters stored right in front of the entrance. I understand that they may be necessary for heating or other purposes, especially during the harsh winter. However, unfortunately, the gas smell got into our room, which made it uncomfortable and difficult to sleep. We had to keep the window open throughout the night to reduce the smell. I would strongly recommend that the owner consider storing the gas canisters somewhere else, away from the entrance and guest rooms. I think this would significantly improve both the comfort and safety of the stay.

First if all, hotel parking lot is more expensive than available spot surrounded, which should be the other way around. Once, we entered the room, the smell hit us, with old carpet and smoking. And we did book the non smoking room. The only one good thing is its location, that’s it. The hotel is old, and need renovation.

Facilities: The hotel is quite old, and while the facilities are in good condition, they aren't exactly modern. Surprisingly, there's a vintage audio system that plays music with a great ambiance from a bygone era. The sound quality also has that classic feel, which I loved. It's definitely worth experiencing this unique charm that other hotels don't offer. Service: Standard hotel service, but they upgraded my room without me even asking, which was a nice touch! Transportation: Even though the hotel is on a mountaintop, they offer a shuttle service to the nearest JR station, which is a huge plus. The Otaru Aquarium is just a few steps away, and the dolphin show is fantastic, plus the penguins are adorable. Scenery: This hotel probably boasts the most unique coastal cliff views in Otaru. It's truly postcard-worthy, and the best part is being able to enjoy it while soaking in the hot spring during the day. The scenery is beautiful and enjoyable. At night, however, you can't see anything. Hygiene: Standard hotel cleanliness. Food: I only stayed overnight and didn't try the food.

March 20, 2026 The hotel is about a 22-minute walk from Otaru Bus Station. The furthest I walked was to the vicinity of the Music Box Museum, which took about half an hour. I walked everywhere to save on transportation costs, and I felt it was a pretty ideal distance. On my first day, after checking out from my previous hotel in Sapporo, I arrived around 1:30 PM local time. The day before, the Trip.com app concierge contacted the Chinese owner, who said I could check in early for free. So, upon arrival, I just entered the main door password, went inside, and used the iPad on the table to scan my passport photo for check-in. It was incredibly smooth. I was so tired that I slept until dark. The property is a detached house (a 'one-family build' villa) with two floors. Each room accommodates independent guests. Only my room (104) and another room on the first floor do not have private toilets or bathrooms; all other rooms have en-suite facilities. So, I only needed to coordinate my bathroom and shower times with one other guest. There are two public showers and one public toilet. During my stay, the other guest and I were very considerate when using the facilities, and it didn't affect our usage at all, which was great. Room 104 is the first room upon entering, which was very convenient for my oversized luggage. The private room itself was also very spacious. On the table were bath towels, hand towels, and a one-piece pajama. I slept very well. The value for money is super high, and I'm extremely satisfied.

This hostel is absolutely stunning! 😻 It used to be a hospital, and the architecture is a beautiful blend of Japanese and Western styles, making you feel like you're staying in a castle. The staff are incredibly friendly too. While it's a bit of a walk from the station, I highly recommend it if you're traveling solo! The private spaces are super comfortable, and the price is very affordable!

This apartment offers a practical and comfortable stay, especially for those looking to explore Otaru on foot. We appreciated the basic utensils and cutlery provided, making it easy to prepare simple meals. The thoughtful inclusion of toothbrushes and toothpaste was a nice touch, and the microwave was handy for quick reheats. Comfort is well-addressed with one air-conditioner and a heater, ensuring a pleasant temperature regardless of the weather. The washing machine was a huge convenience, and we had options for drying clothes either on the hanger stand inside the room or on the balcony. The location is a major highlight, being within easy walking distance to both Otaru Canal and Sakaimachi Street. We also found it convenient to have a Lawson and various eateries nearby, though it's a good idea to check their opening hours as they can vary. Important Considerations for Your Stay While the location is excellent, it's important to note that the road leading to the building is steep. This could be particularly challenging if you're driving, and we would not advise driving during winter due to the road conditions. For those with a car, there are two parking areas available. The closer one has three slots, while a slightly further option offers approximately 12 slots. Keep this in mind, especially if you prioritize a closer parking spot.

The spacious family room was very clean, and I slept soundly until morning. It comfortably fit 6 adults, including junior high school students and older. However, I was told there would be space for 3 cars in the parking lot, but there were already 3 sedans parked there, so it wasn't possible. Even if it were empty, the extremely steep slope and narrow space would require considerable skill to park (TT). We ended up parking in a lot about a 5-6 minute walk away, which cost 600 yen for a maximum of 12 hours. The bathroom is located straight ahead from the entrance, and there's no changing area, so it would have been reassuring to have a partition or space for towels. Also, there are no curtains on the kitchen window immediately above, which required some care.
