We were recommended this hotel by friends who had their daughters wedding there a few years ago. We found a Wowcher deal which included DB & B with dining credit much cheaper than the advertised prices for this hotel. Check in was very easy but things didn't start well as we headed to the bar for drinks. We only ordered a pint of beer and a coffee from a guy who didn't seem happy. The coffee was almost cold alas so we asked if we could have it hotter please even though this took the guy ages to make. We thought they would microwave it (which we would have been happy with to be honest) but they completely remade it. It meant we were stood there for over 20 minutes which we noticed inconvenienced another couple wanting to settle their bill. It did seem ridiculous having to wait so long especially as we noticed other guests later getting a waiting on service. My wife decided to raise it with the manager who on hearing our story was somewhat outraged to be fair and apologised stating that shouldn't happen. She immediately removed the cost of the drinks from our account. From here all went well having ordered more drinks from the waiting on staff. We had booked the 1851 restaurant upstairs from reception but on arrival the menu was quite restrictive and not to our taste so we asked if we could dine in their other restaurant? They duly obliged as there was availability. What a difference for us, so much more choice and much cheaper to be honest. The deal we had included a £30 dining allowance each so we didn't expect to top that. The meal we chose was gammon steak which we both said was the best we had ever had, together with a starter and a pudding each we only went over the £60 limit by what we estimated as £5. The room was much like you would expect in a castle but with modern conveniences. A perfect night sleep on a very comfortable bed. Exceptional quality we thought. Breakfast next morning was exceptional also with a choice of continental or hot breakfast or both if you wished. Next came checkout, asking how our stay was so we said it was good overall. We were told the bill account was just over £100 which I questioned. They had another look, printed the bill out and said it was just over £54. Again I questioned it saying I should owe about £5 allowing for the £60 dining credit but the manager who overheard what we were saying got involved. The total included a discretionary service charge of 10% with them saying it is discretionary but they presented the bill to us including it. At this point we needed to get away and didn't want to argue further as there was a queue forming behind us. We thought it best to sit down and work it out when at home so we paid up. This we did and so there were items on the bill that we hadn't eaten together with 3 pear desserts again there being only 2 of us. We stayed on Sunday 10th September in Delamere, one of the courtyard rooms and started with a perfect Roast Beef Lunch. Possible the best we’ve ever had. Our room was really comfortable and well-appointed. Whilst the bathroom was small, it was cleverly laid out and suited us well. Good lighting for makeup, which makes a refreshing change from most places we visit! Dinner was equally as good (although one constructive criticism would be that the there should be a better variety on the Cheese Board. However we’ve not reduced our 5 * rating because everything else was spot on). After a very comfortable sleep we thoroughly enjoyed a superb breakfast. Great choice, generous and delicious! We enjoyed The Pheasant Inn so much that we are planning to give vouchers to various family members as Christmas gifts and will definitely be back ourselves soon. Thanks for a great stay.

The stay was on my way to Manchester airport. The heater in my first room was not working, but they moved me to another room All was OK with the 2nd room, until I went to use the shower. The head was not working, in as much as it was like using a tap. But overall a great place to stay. I would recommend it, despite the 2 minor issues.

I came to visit family in Chester and chose this hotel as it was close to the train station and a nice walk into Chester. I love the modern look of this hotel, the under bed auto light was brilliant for night time bath room trip no need to turn on the lights. The black out curtains do there job really well I almost over slept, the staff were very helpful when i asked them for help. i will stay here again next time i visit the family

Booking was somewhat painful as I tried to book online and it wouldn't confirm. Emailed hotel and never received a reply so rebooked. Location is adjaent to race course and just 5 minutes walk to everything Chester has to offer. Good parking facilities. Check in was very easy after 2pm. We had a room on 3rd floor which was very clean and warm. There was traffic noise from outside but that is to be expected. Tea/coffee making facilities in room. No iron but we had our own with us. Good breakfast in morning with something for everyone. We have stayed in other Holiday Inn in Chester and this is by far the best in terms of location, cleanliness and favric of the building

We parked in the Grosvenor shopping centre (£10 for 24hrs) walked through the mall to the hotel. Modern, fresh design reception and nicely decorated bar and restaurant. Quick check in, clean room, comfortable beds. Waitress Lelde was spot on and gave excellent service. Limited menu with our Secret Escape deal but adequate for the price we paid. Room a little hot/stuffy as we couldn't open the window, but it did have AC we could have probably played around with. Breakfast had a hot buffet and a selection of cereal and bagels, bread and pastries. Small little containers of over night oats and fresh cut fruit containers were really nice. Drinks machines dispenses the usual latte etc or another had fresh juices. I didn't see any decafe options though. Hotel was spot on, although Chester high street has gone down hill. Lots of boarded up shops. The shops remaining are jewellery shops, cafes or a few clothes shop. Shame there lacks the independent original shops that tourist love to look around for something different. Would recommend if we had to visit the city again and I'm quite a fussy traveller!

Having been fortunate enough to have enjoyed a few previous visits to the Grosvenor for afternoon tea, there was one stand out difference this time...and that was the exceptional service and attention provided by Kimberly and her team. Whilst the afternoon tea was its usual high standard, Kimberly's attention to detail and personal interaction was outstanding and we were made to feel so special its made our day and weekend! Thank you to all the team and we'll see you soon.

Just returned from a two day stay at the hotel with work. This hotel is centrally located next to the railway station. A typical hotel that caters for coach tours and corporate types. My room was on the ground floor of the main building. First of all the room was average and basic. Not serviced over two days either? Rubber bath mat was mouldy and dirty on the bottom. Window would not open either. The main issue was the strong smell of cannabis in the corridor that was a constant throughout my stay. In addition the room next door had a noisy room party as it was full of some Eastern European workers. Went quiet after midnight however. Would not recommend this hotel unless your on a budget. Premier inns are far superior in my opinion. Food and drink : Beer in the bar “real ale” was rank ! Food was ok but service was slow two hours for a two course meal to be gotten through. Breakfast was good though. Staff were polite throughout. Car parking is expensive £15 per night and not very secure.

What a great place to visit Chester from. We got in early to guarantee a good on-site parking place, and were then met by the most pleasant receptionist. The room (a Smart Studio) was delightful, spacious, clean and modern. The bathroom was excellent and we were very pleased to see and use the walk-in shower. The bed was very comfortable, too. The excellent location meant that we walked into the city centre within 5 minutes, but we were far enough away not to be disturbed by late night revellers from the pubs and clubs. Although we were initially concerned at hearing the hourly bell chimes from the racecourse, we needn't have worried, they end at 11pm. The 'quick grab' breakfast suited us fine, not being great fans of the 'full english' breakfast anyway. With so many good eating places within easy reach there was no need to use the excellent cooking facilities. Overall, we couldn't recommend it highly enough. Just what we wanted and at a great price.
