We arrived after midnight for a quick overnight. Check in was done very efficiently by the front desk. Very friendly and pleasant. The room is a standard hotel room: clean, functional, comfortable. The walls are thin, though. We could here the coughs, conversations of the people next door. The breakfast was expansive and the staff were very efficient despite being swamped with guests. Overall a nice stay. Very close to the airport. It is a bit further away from the main tourist attractions.

It was our first time on San Miguel and we can only recommend this hotel! 10 minutes from the airport, fantastic staff, central to everything and spacious, clean rooms. Everything was spotless, the staff at reception very attentive and helpful. We had to book in for breakfast, but that was no problem, if you don't want to book of avoid waiting, there is a café/breakfast place just outside on the left. It is central an perfect to explore Ponta Delgada and surroundings. It does not have a carpark should you rent a car but there is a carpark just up the road for 50p an hour. Definitely would use this hotel again.

The Caloura Hotel Resort impressed us all round. Super nice room with a great view of the sea from the balcony. Beautifully landscaped grounds all around with lots of flowers and flowering shrubs. About 15 minutes by car from Ponta Delgada, it is in a beautiful, quiet location, except for the merry chattering of seabirds at night. Very, very great breakfast buffet - my personal favorite the carob bread rolls, I have never eaten such delicious rolls! The evening buffet was too expensive for us at €28, because we stuck to the salads and desserts in the evening, the main courses were not to our liking, and the a la carte food was more recommendable. The staff is super friendly and helpful, the rooms are super clean! We will come back next year! 100 recommended!!! Das Caloura Hotel Resort hat uns rundum begeistert. Super schönes Zimmer mit toller Aussicht vom Balkon aufs Meer. Rundum schön angelegtes Gelände mit vielen Blumen und blühenden Sträuchern. Etwa 15 Autominuten von Ponta Delgada entfernt liegt es in schöner ruhiger Lage, bis auf das nächtliche lustige Geschnatter der Seevöglel. Sehr sehr tolles Frühstücksbuffet - Mein persönlicher Favorit die Johannesbrot Brötchen, noch nie habe ich so leckere Brötchen gegessen!!! Das Abendbuffet war mit 28€ uns zu teuer, weil wir uns Abends eher an die Salate und den Nachtisch gehalten haben, die Hauptgerichte waren nicht unser Geschmack, da war das Essen A la Carte eher zu empfehlen. Das Personal ist super freundlich und hilfsbereit, die Zimmer tipptopp sauber! Wir werden nächstes Jahr wiederkommen! 100 empfehlenswert!!!

The front desk employees were exceptionally helpful. The gave good suggestions for restaurants and sites on the island. They even called a site to make sure they were open on a national holiday when most places were closed. The restaurant had a large selection of food choices on their breakfast and dinner buffets. We ordered Ala carte at dinner and the food was hot and freshly prepared. Not a lot of spice, but flavorful non the less. The location was a little away from town center and had no ocean views. Rooms were very clean and special requests were handled quickly.

The complex is located in the tranquil village of Capela, a quarter drive from the capital and the airport. A car is a must, but you need it to visit this beautiful island. Our 2-kamerappartement was very spacious and clean. The beds were fine with choice from two kitchens. The hotel is very fully equipped with oven, microwave, Nespresso device (cups for payment) and water cooker with free tea. With no cleaning, you will receive a €3 voucher per day to spend in the restaurant. However, €3 is not worth much in this restaurant, since prices are huge: a cappuccino costs €3.50 here while the prices for coffee are around €1.20 on the island you need to ask yourself for the vouchers, The hotel was very comfortable and it was very comfortable and it was very comfortable and it was very comfortable. The sauna, fitness room and the indoor and outdoor pool were not used, so I can't evaluate this. Sufficient parking space. We booked a 6 night stay in the Azores through Travel Zoo and picked Hotel Delgado. We couldn't have been happier. The rooms were nice. We had a renovated room on the fifth floor. There was a small deck overlooking the street. Perfect location. It was a short walk to the port and there were several restaurants in walking distance. The breakfast in the morning was good. There is a small bar on the ground floor. We stopped there every night either on the way out or when we got back. Carlos is the bartender and he was fantastic. He was working his tail off taking care of everybody and was always pleasant. Plus he is very knowledgeable about the island. He left a great impression of Azorean hospitality on us. We'll definitely stay there again next time.

I just returned from a three night stay at this hotel with my girlfriend and our teenage daughter. We have been countless times in S. Miguel as we consider it such a pleasant and beautiful island. This time we opted for a hotel outside the main towns and in fact we managed to do just that. At the same time it is only 20 minutes away from the airport and 15 minutes away from Ponta Delgada or Ribeira Grande, the two main towns. We already visited the nine islands of the Azores archipelago and always get a rental car at the airport (exception at Corvo Island). If you are staying in this hotel, it is paramount that you do the same. As to the hotel itself, we booked it only four weeks in advance on high season, thus we had to pay the full rate of the stay at that moment. Upon check-in on room 206, we were given two identical cards without any distinctive element, one to open the door and the other to insert into the slot for lightening. That is odd, generally, hotels give two identical keys to open the door and one of them, if necessary can be left on the slot when we are out. We were assigned a spacious accommodation with living room, bedroom and bathroom. We did not have sea view and the living room had lots of glass walls overlooking the adjacent condo. All those glasses made it very hot on the sun shining days and we had to keep the AC on during the day. The décor of the room was unstylish and lacking attention to details. The bedroom had a big closet but no clothes rail or hangers. Besides that, one of the doors of the closet could not be opened fully, because it bumped into the shelves that are installed as bedside tables. The safe was old style, that is to say, it closes with a key that we had to ask for at the reception at no charge, along with a cumbersome key ring that we had to take with us whenever we were out of the room. The living room had a well equipped kitchen, that we did not use but it was constantly patrolled by half a dozen ants. We had bought previously some good looking fruits and had to fill a big dish with water and in the middle of it we put a small dish with our fruit so that the ants weren’t able to cross the water in order to get to fruit island. The bathroom was very spacious and pleasant looking even if the washbasin was more stylish than efficient. This room lacked tremendously of a place to put one´s belongings (toothbrush, toothpaste, comb, electrical razor and so on). Amazingly no one foresaw the installation of a shelf. The social areas of the hotel such as the lobby are, again, unstylish, corridors have shabby carpeting. The room where breakfast is served has a view to an outside wall and lacks natural lightening. Breakfast itself has a reasonable variety of items, but by no means is it worth 12 euro per person per day, that in our case we were asked to paid in advance, precisely at the same moment we made the reservation. This apart-hotel complex is absolutely beautiful, flowering bushes everywhere with a lovely scent. Our apartment was large and airy and had a great private terrace on the first floor (2nd floor if you’re North American). It really was a home from home with a full dining area with table and chairs and lounge area with sofa, soft rug and tv. The main double bedroom was upstairs with an anteroom having a sofa/pull out bed for children or guests 3&4. Lots of storage in the bedroom but there was a distinct lack of hangers in the wardrobe but loads of drawer space. The kitchen is adequate enough for simple meals (no oven) with a twin hob and microwave, kettle and toaster, and a selection of pots and pans. We managed really well. The hotel provides breakfast 8am - 10am if you want it at 12euros per person. We didn’t try this option. Housekeeping are amazing and come every day! Everything is clean and beds are made. Towels can be changed daily if you like. For a self-catering holiday we found that a lot was provided in the apartment for us: washing up liquid, washing up sponge, washing up cloth and a tea towel. These are replenished and changed as needed. There is also toilet roll, shower gel and hand wash provided in the bathroom which was lovely - again, replenished when needed or on request. The complex gardens are beautiful and well-tended. The pool looked lovely and well-cared for, however we didn’t try it out. There seems to be a hot tub in a wooden building off the pool area - we took a look but it was grubby and the water had floating debris. I’m sure they would have sorted it out if we had asked, but we were out and about discovering the island every day. You definitely need to hire a car for the duration of your stay here as there isn’t any bus route nearby and taxis would be very expensive to get around the island. HANDY TIP: If you’re picking up your hire car on landing at the airport and driving to Quinta da Santana - to get into the complex there is an electronic gate that requires a remote control. When you first arrive, drive past the big metal gate and find the next smaller (pedestrian) gate. Put the hazard lights on in the car and get out to ring the bell. This alerts reception who will come and open the gate for you or just give you a remote straight away so you can drive into the complex. We had a horrendous time of looking and looking and going around and around the roads trying to find the entrance!! We didn’t know about the need to ring the pedestrian gate bell (face palm!) The reception staff are lovely and very accommodating and speak English very well. I’m not sure what other languages they can speak. The area that Quinta da Santana is situated in is the one fly in the ointment….it seems really run down and the road they are situated on is all full of industrial buildings and commercial businesses. Further exploration within Santana uncovers the grubbier side of agricultural life with its local working class community.

My opinion is that this establishment has a confused identity in that it is unhospitable, bordering on unfriendly, poorly located and charging high end rates but also provides touches one would expect to find in a cheap budget hotel chain. The Positives : Our room was on the Executive Floor and was spotlessly clean, big in size, with a comfortable bed and good quality bedding. For this it gets a star. The ensuite was also large with an in-bath shower, with a good quality rain forest head, however I personally dislike in-bath showers and consider them to be a safety hazard. I believe every hotel at this stage should be providing a walk in shower. The hotel has a nice pool with a sauna, steam room and jacuzzi for which it received its second star, however these areas can be busy when tours are in the hotel. The Negatives : Our room did not have a balcony hence the sea view was really irrelevant due to the window cill being above waist level therefore the view could not be enjoyed other than in a standing position. The tea tray was abysmal, indeed I have never seen its likes in a budget hotel !! paper cups were provided ???? when I asked at reception, I was simply informed that's what they provide. Paper cups in an executive room ?Any environmental value was quickly superseded by wrapping each in single use plastic. Furthermore no milk was provided nor was any welcome note or complimentary water. I have never stayed in any hotel anywhere worldwide that didn't provide complimentary water in the room, let alone one charging such nightly rates. The buffet breakfast is substantial, yet here again there were issues as discussed in previous reviews and touches of budget chain hotel. I yet again simply cannot understand any executive chef permitting cold plates to be provided to serve hot food, not that all the food will be hot to start with, indeed depending on your luck and timing the food will vary from warm to stone cold and certainly cannot afford heat loss to a cold plate. Tea and coffee are self served from 2 machines in front of which you queue up !!! a queue which can be significant when tours are in occupation. I have never queued for tea in such a manor in any hotel previously, it was more akin to getting tea in a petrol station than a high end hotel. Unhospitable : We arrived early after a long journey and dropped the bags at the hotel, we were informed that the room wasn't ready however if such became available prior to the 15.00 check in time that the hotel would ring us. We called back at 14.00 hot and sweaty, ready to throw ourselves in a chair for an hour to be told that the room was now ready ??? Well then as I have complained strongly in another review, where was our phone call ??? Mind you in hind sight the reception did not show much hospitality in many issues.
