Grand Hotel Wolkenstein

I was so excited for our stay at this property after seeing the photos of the pool area but was sadly disappointed when we arrived & the entire patio was under construction. The pool was cold & there were construction workers eating lunch all over the yard staring at me in my bathing suit which made me uncomfortable., The hotel is cute & staff is nice. Breakfast was good. I found the rooms uncomfortable, especially the beds. There is free parking on site, but not much. I imagine during the high season it will be more challenging to park. Overall, it was an ok stay. I expected more.

The hotel itself is very clean and has nice decor with a nice reception and bar area. The room was much smaller than expected with limited storage space but very clean with nice bathroom. The location of the hotel is great, only a short walk to the centre and not too far to walk to ski lift and the hotel offers a shuttle to two different areas. The boot room has no internal access to the hotel, is small and limited on seating area so difficult to get ready in the morning when busy. You can almost ski back to the hotel if you are happy to walk down a hill in ski gear. We were booked in to the hotel for 5 nights with my parents and our 2 year old son although bad weather meant we arrived a day late so only stayed for 4 nights. Unfortunately the hotel does not offer kids meals in the evening before 7pm when the restaurant opens so we had to take our son out for his dinner as he goes to bed at 7pm. We found the staff very inflexible and were told that they could reheat food if we brought it with us but the chef couldn't prepare anything for our son and had we known this before arriving we would have possibly chosen somewhere else. There was a bar menu for drinks which we had ordered the same bottle of sparkling wine from on the first two evenings only to be told on the third evening that we could only order this wine in the restaurant. We were told this by the barman that had served us the previous two nights. So after pointing this out and showing that it was on the bar menu and we were in the bar he reluctantly served us. There was no rose wine on the bar menu but there was on the restaurant menu so we had to wait to sit in the restaurant to order the rose wine which after dinner we could then carry through to the bar. It all goes on one bill so can't understand why we couldn't order it in the bar? Now, restaurant timings, my partner went to the restaurant on the first morning at 7.20am to try to make a coffee and was told to leave at it was not 7.30am when the restaurant opened. We have never stayed in a hotel where you are not allowed a drink before 7.30am even though the coffee machine is self service. We were not the only guests to be rudely told to leave the restaurant minutes before it 'opened'. Perhaps the restaurant doors should be locked so guests have the chance to avoid Alin's confrontational gate keeping? Talking of restaurant timings, not only do they not let you in before it is time to open but you mustn't stay at your table any later than 10pm when the restaurant closes. We have stayed at many hotels of all ratings and have never stayed anywhere where we are made to feel like naughty children constantly being told off and restricted by rules and timings. Individually the staff seemed like nice people but the rules they are governed by makes it a rather unsettling place to stay. A nice old hotel from the outside but the interior is rather modern and lacks the cosiness of the Hotel Dosses. The food is good but overly fussy - with 5-7 courses sometimes more elaborate than needed. They seemed somewhat understaffed. Several complaints about the light in the ski room did not result in it being fixed. They have not provided a copy of the bill (which I settled on checkout) despite 4-5 requests

They are thieves and lie. I checked in with my family. 2 adults and one 5 year old And my infant. I checked in and gave all the passports. My booking states my child stays for free and at check out they tried to charge me 35 Euros per night for the baby. This was not disclosed to me at check in and goes against the booking I have. Would not stay here again and recommend staying other places. Horrible lies

We have just come home from a fantastic stay at the Grand Hotel Wolkenstein. Our stay was over Christmas and New Year which made it extra special. The hotel facilities are excellent, the food was superb and plentiful. The buffet on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve were amazing. We were looked after so well by Jasmine and Alin in the restaurant and by the lovely barman each evening. Our rooms were modern and very clean and everything worked very well. The spa and outdoor pool were a nice treat each evening. The hotel will take you to the ski lift each morning which made things very easy. We will definitely come back and would love to see this amazing area in the summer.

I want to express my gratitude to every member of staff for looking after our family and making our stay so welcome, relaxed and easy to comply with our busy every day needs which varied for every family member. I felt my children were safe and self dependant here, thus helped me to relax and encouraged the growth of their self dependancy. This is a big factor for me as a mother and also speaks volumes of the place and staff. Its been a comfortable and a pleasant stay, food was incredible, especially Tyrollean dinner! Receptionist, waiters, waitresses, bartenders highly professional and friendly at the same time. Thank you from all 6 of us!

The room was perfect. Large, lots of light, storage, a balcony, split bathroom. The bed was soo comfy and the linens were always pristine. There was a 'spa basket' with pool sandals and bathrobes. The lobby, bar, and restaurant were first class. And the food was simply excellent. A fabulous breakfast buffet with so many options and a five course dinner every evening. The outdoor area is beautiful, the pool is such a treat and there are little private areas to enjoy. There are saunas and steamrooms and... It was just fabulous.

We loved our stay at the Grand Hotel Wolkenstein. Staff was friendly, amenities and service were great. Kids enjoyed the outdoor facilities. Rooms and beds very comfortable, large balcony. Amazing views of the mountains!

Context: We spent an entire week skiing with our two children, aged 4 and 8, from Sunday to Monday. We booked a room at the Grand Hotel for a little more than 600 EUR per day (half board). Before making the reservation, we conducted thorough research and relied on the recommendation of a colleague who had visited the same place several times with teenagers. However, our experience was marred by the complete lack of support from the reception staff in addressing factual omissions related to the use of the shuttle service. This issue highlighted larger problems in their handling of the situation. To summarize the situation, upon our arrival, we informed the reception about the ski school schedule for our kids, only to be told that the shuttle service would not drop off or pick up our children at Monte Pana (the ski school's meeting point) because the shuttle only serviced Sasslong. To understand the full extent of the issue: - The hotel had informed us a month prior to our arrival that they would not operate a shuttle to Ski School 2000 in Selva. This correspondence clearly demonstrated the connection between the hotel's bus service and our booking at the hotel. - The hotel failed to inform us that they would not operate a shuttle to the only ski school in Santa Cristina, specifically to the meeting point at Monte Pana. - Monte Pana, the meeting point, was not accessible by ski lift, except for the return trip at the end of the day, and it was not recommended for children under 5 years old. Moreover, it was too far to consider walking, as it involved a distance of several kilometers with 300 ascents that would take a car around 8 minutes to cover. - There was no public transport available to reach Monte Pana, and since we didn't have a car (we arrived by taxi from Innsbruck airport), our only option was to take a taxi. -A lot of hotels send their bus to Monte Pana. Now, let's talk about how the reception staff, especially Giacomo , handled the issue: -They completely denied their responsibility in a series of email exchanges, expecting us to be familiar with the local geography and the ski school's planning. -They showed no flexibility in adjusting their shuttle service, despite the possibility of sending their friendly driver, Daniel, to Monte Pana to assist us. Unfortunately, Daniel was instructed not to help us, which was both unbelievable and true. -There was a lack of empathy, with the reception staff considering the problem solely our responsibility and showing no willingness to resolve it. -When we requested to speak to the manager, we were denied access to the management. However, our situation improved when my wife explained the problem to the helpful staff at the ski school. They were surprised to hear our side of the story and contacted our hotel to find a solution. The hotel, unfortunately, claimed they could not assist us, prompting the ski school to offer to transport our children in the car of an instructor every morning to
