The Baron was the first (2009) resort in Egypt we ever stayed. Since then we have explored other Egyptian destinations, Hurghada, Marsa Alam, Dahab but we keep returning to Sharm. Visits to some other hotel groups have disappointed, as they seem to follow a similar format, which often we found loud and brash. We return to the Baron for its consistency, pristine cleanliness (never had any stomach upsets) the staff (goes without saying, see below) who recognise and remember us from a year or years ago but not only that, they recall our preferences and cannot do enough to ensure our comfort and relaxation. This hotel is not 'loud and lively'. Your ears will not be offended by extreme volumes of music from dawn to dusk although entertainment is provided by way of evening events in the amphitheatre and live musicians in the Lobby and Terrace. It is relaxing and unobtusive in a classy way. The grounds are a pure delight thanks to the dedicated groundsmen who are quietly beavering away in the background, again, always greet guests with a smile and go about their tending meticulously, as do the cleaners in every corner of this resort. The a la carte restaurants (Indian, Italian, Egyptian, Seafood) serve beautiful quisine and varied menus. The chefs and servers all work in harmony and there is never any rush to vacate the table. At the main Buffet restaurant which has recently completed a very pleasing and tasteful refurbish, plenty of choice, different themes each evening of the week, from Mediterranean, Asian, spit roasts, barbeque, you will find a pasta/pizza station, sushi counter, food constantly replenished and tended efficiently by all the smiling staff. Any special requests the staff will source. You only have to ask. The pool and beach bars provide a change of scene and menu for lunch/evening drinks and snacks available throughout the day. During mosquito season the hotel makes every effort to repel the nuisance with smoke machines at dusk. There are no steep steps, being mainly on level terrain, which we prefer. We have found some other resorts challenging, as the terrain from Hadaba to Pickalbatross is steep from the sea up. Here, the terrain has levelled out and more condusive for anyone with mobility issues or families with push chairs etc. Now to the jewel in the Baron's crown! The fabulous house reef, still, thankfully, in beautiful condition, teeming with every variety of tropical fish. If you wish to dive, or learn to dive, there is a dive centre on site. Early morning is a good time to enjoy the spectacle. My only concern over the years, is the floating pontoon and vertical ladders to access the reef. So this is something to bear in mind - I so wish the resort would build a solid, wooden jetty with steps and a handrail. The sea view rooms certainly do boast a breathtaking view. Furniture/decor is classic, quality and that is entirely in keeping with this resort The service and staff, so many to mention so please
