Introduction to Hemu Courtyard Homestay
Nestled in the heart of Hemu Colored Pottery Cultural Village—an ancient village with a 500-year history of pottery-making—this homestay is surrounded by a rich atmosphere of ceramic culture, where earthenware ruins dot the landscape and colored pottery vessels have been passed down through generations.
Spanning 18 mu (about 12,000 square meters), the homestay features a classic Huizhou-style compound, with white walls, black tiles, and intricately brick-carved gate towers. A tranquil Qinghu Stream winds through the courtyard, eventually flowing into the Xu River. Looking up, you can gaze at the unique green landscape of Jianglang Mountain in the distance; outside the gate, mountains and waters blend harmoniously, while inside, serenity reigns.
The amenities balance functionality and character: two quadrangle courtyards have been converted into restaurants, serving local delicacies in pottery vessels made in the village. There are also meeting rooms, a KTV, and an open-air cinema to cater to gatherings. For cultural immersion, guests can explore the earthenware workshop and intangible cultural heritage pottery restoration studio, where they can shape clay and experience ancient pottery techniques. A book bar and dedicated spaces for the "Four Arts of the Song Dynasty literati" (tea-making, flower arrangement, incense burning, and calligraphy/painting) let cultural relaxation blend seamlessly with your stay.
Awarded "Zhejiang Provincial Platinum Homestay" and "Zhejiang Provincial Cultural Theme Homestay" in 2021, Hemu Courtyard is more than a place to rest—it’s an ideal haven to immerse yourself in pottery culture and the charm of an ancient village.
"During a scorching summer day, I visited Quzhou's Jiangshan region and stayed at this gem of a guesthouse. This elegant, quaint old house, relocated from Wuyuan, is truly a tourist attraction in itself. The rooms are comfortable and cozy, and well-equipped. The owner was very kind. On our arrival day, he picked us up from the train station and upgraded us to a new room. The next day, he even took us to Jianglang Mountain. He was incredibly knowledgeable and insightful, sharing many of Jiangshan's cultural stories with us, which was incredibly insightful. The guesthouse also offers intangible cultural heritage crafts, and we made pottery, which delighted my daughter. The front desk staff were also very friendly, and we chatted about many interesting topics. We even played chess together on our last day, which was a joy. The guesthouse has its own restaurant, and the food is delicious. The chef proactively asked if we like spicy food, catering to our tastes. The heat kept us from leaving in the afternoon, but thankfully, the guesthouse has an outdoor swimming pool, several bookshelves of good books, and interesting people and adorable cats. It felt like we could stay in the guesthouse without leaving. Unfortunately, I only discovered the treehouse just before leaving, but I'm not sure if I can climb it. I'll leave that as a mystery for next time. I also recommend all friends who go to Jiangshan to stay at Dongshan Hemu Villa."
