"Pleasant stay at the hotel. Clean accommodation and nice rooms. We had the superior room and the only downside was that the two single beds kept sliding apart. Easily solved if wheels with brakes were installed. Otherwise, friendly staff and a great breakfast."

"Μείναμε εδώ για δύο νύχτες στα τέλη Μαρτίου για να παρευρεθούμε στο Λαετάρ του Στάβελοτ. Παραλίγο να ακυρώσω την κράτησή μου επειδή τους έστειλα δύο ηλεκτρονικά μηνύματα με απλές ερωτήσεις (αν θα χρειαζόμουν ένα τσιπ επέκτασης για το CPAP μου, και αν θα χρειαζόμασταν κράτηση για το Thermes de Spa) στα τέλεια γαλλικά, και τα μηνύματα δεν είχαν καν αναγνωριστεί. (Όπως αποδείχθηκε, θα έπρεπε να είχαμε κρατήσεις για τις θερμίδες, αλλά μας άφησαν να μπούμε) Χαίρομαι που μείναμε, γιατί το δωμάτιο ήταν άνετο (επιλέξαμε ένα από τα μεγαλύτερα δωμάτια) και η τοποθεσία είναι άνετη. Η τροπολογία αριθ. Δεν είναι σαφές γιατί δεν αναφέρθηκε την πρώτη μέρα. Το άλλο θέμα που πρέπει να γνωρίζετε είναι ότι οι χρόνοι εισόδου είναι περιορισμένοι. Αν μπορείτε να αντιμετωπίσετε τα αρνητικά, είναι ένα σταθερό μέρος για να μείνετε, ειδικά τα καλύτερα δωμάτια τους. Αν δεν θέλουν να απαντήσουν στα email τους, θα μπορούσαν τουλάχιστον να δημιουργήσουν μια αυτόματη απάντηση που δεν παρακολουθείται το γραμματοκιβώτιο-ή να διαγράψουν όλες τις διευθύνσεις ηλεκτρονικού ταχυδρομείου."

"The renovation of the hotel is absolutely superb. The rooms are very well appointed and comfortable. It’s a grand and elegant building. Unfortunately the standard of the restaurant lets it down. The food is not at all innovative and is bistro style at best. Bread was served haphazardly with some guests not receiving bread at all while others got it with the dessert. Although the restaurant was not full and there were plenty of staff, drink orders were very slow and abruptly served. One of the young women was obviously being trained but the other student staff wandered in and out with a vacant look, not clearing tables or offering wine. It was very hard to summon anyone’s attention. The meal itself was basic with no sides available and no vegetables. One would expect more from a 5 star establishment. They need a new chef and a menu to match the elegance of the hotel. The lime green and white garden chairs and tables in no way go with the otherwise sumptuous surroundings. I hope they are able to lift their game soon as the place has great potential"

"Unless there’s somewhere special I have in mind, I tend to have a habit of patronising the restaurant attached to the accommodation I have booked. At this stage I have only booked a single night in Spa. At dinner I notice there are no ashtrays on the tables. I ask if this is a smoke free restaurant. The waiter tells me that at the moment no one is smoking, but they are allowed to smoke if they wish. I ask if I can move if someone starts smoking. No! Once you sit down, you cannot move. {emphasis on the full stop} Okay, so I’m paying over $100 for dinner and if some inconsiderate wants to smoke and ruin my night, then I have to just suck it all up. After that conversation, the waiter now serves me without eye contact. The food is placed on the table, he utters something in French and briskly walks away. There is no explanation as to what is in the soup of the day. The table next to me appears to have ordered soup of the day as well, but it is a completely different colour. So did I get yesterday’s leftovers. To those who speak French he jokes and smiles – the ultimate shmoozer. In the French part of Belgium, no one seems to speak English. Not an issue – it’s their country – but the change from the Dutch part to the French part is interesting. I am now looked down upon for not speaking their local language. I get the whole language thing, but as an Australian coming to Europe for a couple of months, am I really expected to learn 5 or 6 differnt languages to make everyone happy. As to the waiter; his shoes are cheap; his pants are too long as he can’t be bothered taking them up and they are sliding down under his pot belly since he’s not wearing a belt. Yet somewhere in his mind he is above me in status without knowing a single thing about me. After both waiters ignore me for ages, he finally comes to collect my glass. He looks at me with raised eyebrows. There is no verbalised question as to whether I would like another glass of wine, more a disdainful look – he will not lower himself to utter words to someone less than himself. I request another glass and ask if it could be in a bigger glass, explaining that Pinot Noir needs to breathe – I was initially served a much smaller glass than every other table. Hmmpph. Okay He placed the glass on my table and walked away as quickly as he could with no eye contact. I raised my palms to the sky in exasperation as he walked away. He approached me a few minutes later and told me that his fellow waitress had claimed I was still asking him a question when he walked away. I explained why I felt aggrieved and he told me that he was sorry I had interpreted things this way. After dinner I walk across the square to anothet hotel who gives me an air conditioned room for 10% less for the following night. "

"A stunning accommodation in a beautiful setting away from the town. Thierry was so helpful on our arrival. The rooms are beautifully appointed and very clean with all the amenities you would want. Unfortunately we didn’t make use of breakfast as we had an early start. I would certainly recommend and would love to stay again when we are on our motorcycle travels. Thank you so much for our welcome."

Hotel la Reine

"The person at the reception is very cold and not professional, not even friendly. The rooms are clean but not more, a little expensive for the price/night. On the other hand, the mattresses are very bad which gave us very poor sleep. Nothing worse than that! The hotel restaurant is OK but under the large window it is much too hot even in the evening!"
