"This was definitely my favorite hotel on this Izu trip! The value for money was exceptional, the views were great, and both dinner and breakfast were thoughtfully prepared. I saw some average reviews, but I actually found it to be quite good. My only minor complaint would be the limited shuttle service. In the morning, there are only shuttles at 9:20, 9:50, and a bit after 10:00. I arrived at 11:00 and had to make my own way to the hotel, which was a bit far, but the walk wasn't difficult and was actually quite pleasant. For your second day, I'd highly recommend catching the 9:20 shuttle to make the 9:37 Black Ship cruise to Shimoda!"

"This is the best hotel for this trip to Japan, and it is also the hotel with the best value for money. I will stay here for a few more days if I have the chance. The hotel is on a cliff by the sea, with new facilities and a sense of design. The rooms, restaurant and hot springs are decorated and arranged very carefully. All of them are sea view rooms, and the windows are large floor-to-ceiling glass, with an unobstructed view of the sea view, which is very enjoyable. The restaurant's breakfast and dinner ingredients are fresh, and the ingredients and plating are very particular. The main focus is on seafood, and the portions are full. The staff is warm, thoughtful and meticulous in their service. The hotel also provides free shuttle bus service from Atagawa Station to the hotel. It is a very cost-effective hotel, highly recommended"

"Traveling as a family of three, we booked a triple room. The room size was quite generous for Japan, and it was very clean. The room we were given had a partially obstructed view, which was a shame, as the sea view would have been beautiful otherwise. Laundry is free, but surprisingly, the sun loungers with umbrellas by the pool cost extra – first time I've encountered that! Breakfast was around 200+ (Yen, I assume), which isn't great value for money, but it's a resort hotel, so it's acceptable. You can book dinner at the hotel or go to Kawazu Station, though there aren't many options there. There's a free shuttle bus, with the last one around 4:35 PM. Overall, it was a very comfortable stay, perfect for a relaxing vacation."

"We were extremely satisfied with our stay at this hotel in Atagawa. Every corner of the hotel was thoughtfully decorated, and the staff were very welcoming. The same young man handled both check-in and check-out, and we communicated fluently in English throughout. He provided detailed information, and since we hadn't booked dinner, he proactively recommended several nearby restaurants and local specialties. We even tried the nearby restaurants ”Nishiki” and ”Oboro.” He was especially considerate when we checked out, offering to drive us to the station – a very thoughtful gesture. During our stay, we also enjoyed the two outdoor onsen rooms on the third floor. Soaking in the hot spring while listening to the sound of the waves was truly relaxing. I highly recommend experiencing this hotel in Atagawa."

"During my two-week trip in Japan, this was unfortunately the worst hotel I stayed at. First of all, the price is not cheap, but the level of service does not match the cost. When I arrived at the parking area, there were many empty parking spaces available, yet I was not allowed to use them and had to park in a charging station space instead, which was confusing and inconvenient. The hotel lobby looks luxurious and impressive, but the guest rooms are extremely outdated and feel like they have not been renovated since the 1980s. The bathroom sink was unusually low, and I had to bend down every time I washed my face or brushed my teeth, which became quite uncomfortable. The only real advantage of this hotel is the view, which is indeed beautiful. However, at this price point, there are many better options available. Another thing that I found very unpleasant was the loudspeaker announcement reminding guests to check out. I personally felt this was quite impolite. If the hotel needs to remind guests about check-out, calling the room telephone would be much more appropriate. The loudspeaker announcement felt more like being told to leave immediately rather than being treated as a guest. I also believe the hot spring tax should be clearly explained during check-in, especially if it must be paid regardless of whether guests use the bath facilities. Being informed only at check-out was disappointing and caused unnecessary confusion. In addition, the English communication at the front desk was very limited. Unfortunately, I had difficulty understanding what the staff were trying to explain, which made the experience even more frustrating as an international traveler. Overall, despite the beautiful view, the outdated facilities, communication issues, and service experience did not justify the price. Unfortunately, I would not recommend this hotel."

"The private hot spring baths on Ao and Hi require advance booking with a fee. The other four baths have one free booking. Basic food is average; the main attraction is the paid private hot spring experience, which is rare even in Izu. Overall, the price-performance ratio is not high. Guests staying at the downstairs Kuroganeiwa bathhouse get in for free, but the experience is also mediocre. There are many other options available at this price point."

"The room and environment are great, and the service is also very good. I just asked the front desk to borrow an adapter, but there was no adapter. In addition, the Western food reserved for dinner was said to be the default on Ctrip, but I did not choose Western food. Why should I go to a Japanese-style hotel? Maybe they all ordered Western food, but after negotiating for a long time, they changed to Japanese food for one night. I don't know who should be blamed for this problem."

"The room we stayed in was very big, a Western-style room with two mattresses and a massage chair. The hotel's open-air hot spring bath has a great view, facing the sea. The breakfast and dinner were very rich, and the staff also thoughtfully gave each of us a lunch box when we went out in the morning. I felt that the value of the room fee was reflected in the meals. The hotel will have a free shuttle bus at Izu Atagawa Station before 4 pm every day, every hour and 30 minutes, and every half hour, so you can easily get to the hotel if you calculate the time."

"I sincerely recommend Hokkawa Onsen Hotel! Our stay completely exceeded our expectations. The hot spring water was incredibly soothing. I highly recommend trying the private onsen, which only costs an additional 2200 JPY (about 90 RMB). It's perfect for two people and offers fantastic value for money. The hotel's free public onsen and the outdoor open-air bath were also super enjoyable! The hotel's public lounge area was very thoughtful, with free cola, various teas, oranges, and coffee available for guests. I must especially commend the elderly gentleman at the front desk – he was exceptionally kind and provided excellent service! The location is superb, right next to the popular and top-rated ryokan ”Bousui”! While Bousui can cost anywhere from 3000 to 5000 RMB a night, this hotel is a fantastic alternative, costing only around 700-800 RMB during the off-season and just over 900 RMB during peak times. It's just a few minutes' walk to the stunning natural Kurone Iwa Onsen by the sea, which hotel guests can use for free, and the views are truly breathtaking. The nearest Lawson convenience store is about 1.1 km away, a 2-minute taxi ride. The hotel also sells instant noodles for 200-300 JPY, which is similar to outside prices, making it very convenient for stocking up on supplies. Our room in the main building was a generous 50 square meters, super spacious! The lobby environment was comfortable, the room was impeccably clean, and the Wi-Fi speed was excellent. The bedding had no unpleasant odors, and walking barefoot on the floor felt perfectly fine. The bathroom had a wet-dry separation, with a very practical layout. I honestly feel this place is underrated and fully deserves a rating of 4.8-4.9. Our entire stay was incredibly pleasant, and we will definitely come back!"

"We booked the largest room type, but I think the sea view might actually be better in the standard rooms, as our room was located right on the far side. The lobster was pretty mediocre, so I wouldn't recommend booking the set meal. However, the breakfast and dinner buffets were quite good. I'd suggest going to the hot springs around 9 AM after breakfast; you'll practically have the place to yourself as it closes at 10 AM and doesn't reopen until the afternoon."
