"I have stayed here before. The price I paid for a Saturday night was £39. The hotel has been refurbishing in stages for a while so it can be pot luck if you have a refurbished room or not. The room was clean and bathroom spotless. Lady who checked us in was very friendly. The only complaint I could say was the room we had phone signal was non existent, could have been warmer in the room but it's between summer and winter and for us it was OK. I like this hotel and for the price you'd struggle to find somewhere as good. Will visit again."

"I will never stay here again, booked for 2 adults and 1 child, child’s bed wasn’t made ready for us to call reception and for the lady to only say you will have to pay for the child’s breakfast (this wasn’t the problem we called about) then for the lady to bring bedding to the room and place it next to the bed that we had to then make up ourselves (something we paid for) we said we would pay the additional £10 for our sons breakfast for the lady to be completely rude and say she’s not bothered and to walk out no manager on site apparently for us to speak to until the next morning I find this completely unacceptable and for nothing to then be done about this apart from a passing apology on our way out is ridiculous"

"The outside of the hotel needs sprucing up, the inside is tired too, but our room was huge. A slight sea view too. The staff were all lovely, breakfast was great too. The location was a pleasant walk away from the Princess Theatre. Plenty of places to eat along the way too."

"Decent location. Spacious room with good in room facilities. Reception is open 24hours. Staff at reception were very friendly. There was a lot of noise from people running up and down the stairs and this continued till late at night. Otherwise it was an ok stay with value for money."

"My partner and I received a two-night hotel stay gift voucher for Christmas 2019 and previous to the COVID-19 pandemic, there was a wide range of hotels to choose from. Unfortunately, as we hadn’t used it before March, the choice of hotels and locations had reduced dramatically (totally understandable) by the time we came to use it. We chose Torquay as our location and The Devonshire was basically our only option. Despite having a two-night stay voucher we did have to pay an additional £65 but I’m not really sure what it was for. When we opened the door to our room (41) it was dramatically underwhelming. Extremely outdated decor, very basic, very small & the smell of smoke was unbearable even though it was advertised as “non-smoking” and there was a packet of half used filters on the floor (not the staffs fault, I know). We were only here for two nights and as it was only a place to get our heads down at the end of the day we just opened the window, dumped our luggage and went off into the town to find somewhere to eat. On our return, my partner made a comment to Simon on reception (who was so lovely) about our room not being great. Simon seemed a little taken aback because we hadn’t said anything so he handed us our keys and we headed off to our room. 5 minutes later, we had a knock on the door and it was Simon, apologising for the fact the room wasn’t great & offered to show us another room in the outside lodge. We moved to room 61 and it was much better. I did notice the PAT test sticker on the TV in 61 was dated 2014, next due in 2015 and I thought they had to be done yearly at least? TV very small but we weren’t there to stay in the room and watch TV so we weren’t bothered but the bathroom & the room itself were clean and tidy. We had a few drinks in the hotel bar and the gentleman with the glasses who served us was very friendly and had a great sense of humour. Can’t say much for the evening receptionist, young girl with blonde hair. Didn’t come across very friendly and seemed quite miserable if I’m honest. Couldn’t fault Simon though and would like to thank him for being so professional & helpful. All in all, it isn’t the worst hotel I’ve stayed in but I don’t think it’s somewhere I would rush back to on my next stay to Torquay. I’ve previously stayed in the TLH chain and highly recommend them so will be sticking with them. (First two pictures are 41, last three 61)"

"The room we were given was at the bottom of a flight of stairs resulting in a lot of noise disturbance throughout the day and night. The hotel itself feels a little dated and the bed was incredibly uncomfortable. The fire alarm at 7am was also an unwelcome wake up call. The breakfast was good, with a decent selection and the general location is good for accessing local walks and the costal path. Parking is a bit of a nightmare and you can end up with a lengthy walk to the hotel when it is busy."

"The has incredible amenities for the price they charge! Everyone was warm and welcoming and made sure we were catered to at all times during our stay. The rooms were comfortable and what you would expect a standard room too have, the rooms were slightly rough around the edges and had general ware and tear but that didn’t bother us much. Overall very happy with our stay, and will be coming again."

"The stay was pleasant, the room was basic but clean missed not having a bath and just a shower missed simple things like a hair dryer in the room although when requested at the reception I was given one and lack of choice of coffee and tea in the room. It was very nice that there was no noise at night and meant a decent night's sleep. Breakfast was acceptable, but you have to get there early when it comes out hot from the kitchen, or it is all cold from spending to long under the hot plates. The only big downside is it's a good 30mns walk from the town centre although buses seem to run outside the hotel but there is a good-sized car park if you drive. The room was small but fine for just my 2 nights stay and acceptable. I'm not sure the room size, lack of luxuries and breakfeast beng hit and miss would make it comfortable for a longer stay."
