Love this hotel. It's beautifully designed by 坂茂 and it lives up to his fame. The buildings look like they are floating over the rice fields. Both dinners and breakfast were excellent. Most ingredients are sourced locally and they are delicious. But what I love the most is the open baths. Both are small, but they're carefully designed with a tranquil, soothing view. I'd love to come back again just for the hotel.

I think this hotel is in a great location and offers excellent service. However, it's a 20-30 minute walk from Yamagata Station, so if walking is too much for you, I recommend taking a taxi. It's a short walk if you stroll around town while sightseeing, so don't worry about that. Also, there's a hot spring on the first floor, but it's open until midnight, so if you want to take a night bath, there's a slight chance you might miss it depending on what time you get home. Of course, there's a regular shower room and bathtub in the room, so you can wash up there. In addition, the morning bath is open from 6am to 10am, so it's no problem to take a leisurely bath. With a hot spring, this was a great hotel that I'd like to return to. There's also a Lawson on the first floor, so you can buy something to eat and relax in your room.

Superb! The facilities are excellent, service is great, and the location is very convenient. The hot spring is incredibly relaxing. I didn't expect a hot spring hotel not located in the mountains to be this good. The food quality is also good, and very filling. The only downside is that they keep your shoes in the lobby, so you have to ask them to retrieve them every time you go in or out. It's best not to go in and out too frequently.

Sehr professionell geführtes Hotel mit englischsprachigen, ausgesprochen zuvorkommenden (und erstaunlich vielen) Mitarbeitern. Ausgezeichnetes Onsen mit Außenbereich und sehr klarer Luft. Hervorragendes, extrem reichhaltiges Essensangebot mit offener Küche. Schöne Lobby mit Innengarten. WiFi geht gut, ist aber je nach Hotelbereich ein anderes. Es wird lokaler Wein angeboten. Sehr ruhiges Umfeld, 10min vom Bahnhof. Das gesamte Hotel bis auf die Küche sind gepflegt und alles funktioniert. Fester wurden geputzt, gucken sie nach sowas mal in Europa… Aber es ist in 2025 alles auf dem Stand von 1983 - plus WiFi. Das muss kein Mangel sein, aber hier und da sieht man es deutlich auch im Zimmer z.B. bei den Rollos und dem betagten (aber leisen) Kühlschrank, der noch nie abgetaut worden zu sein scheint und in dem eine Kanne mit Wasser stand, dass gekühlt genug Zeit zum Verdunsten und wieder Kondensieren hatte, vielleicht steht sie da schon immer…

Always remote rural areas, so travelling time is relatively long. The hotel facilities are also very complete, basically no need to leave the hotel to buy any daily necessities outside after check-in. The meals are also very rich and delicious. There are two hot springs in the hotel, one public and the other for single use, everyone can use according to their needs, very convenient. The only downside is that all the hotel staff are only Japanese and it is harder to communicate. I was asked to pay for extra meals when checking out, even when I showed my booking voucher that the room rate was included, they didn't understand, and I had to pay for it when I left. Fortunately, after communicating with trip.com staff, this duplicate payment can be returned. If I can't return it, I really want to cry.

The room I booked was a single-bed room without a bathroom. It was a Japanese-style tatami room with a bed and table converted into a wheelchair-friendly room. The price was relatively cheap. There is no problem if you use it as a budget hotel room, but if you want to experience a hot spring hotel, it is recommended to choose a Japanese-style tatami room.

The meal was very delicious. The bath was also a very pleasant bath. I also wanted to go. The personality of the mother was also very good. Then, it was a nice inn decorated on the whole side of the building such as paintings and bronze statues.

I spent two nights in Tokyo Daiichi Hotel Tsuruoka and I would stay there again. The location is very good - ten minutes easy walk from Tsuruoka JR train station and it's directly connected to S-Mall, so you don't even have to go outside to access the shops and restaurants in the mall. There is also a bus terminal at the mall for local buses - I caught a bus from there to Mount Haguro. The bedroom was a good size for a Japanese business hotel with a good size desk and chair. However, I could only find one power socket! It's good that I brought a power strip! Typical of Japanese hotels with Onsen / Sentō the bathroom is small - most people would use the public bath facilities to shower. The hotel has a Japanese style bath, however it was in the annexe, so it was rather confusing the first time I tried to find it. Two of the baths were inaccessible - the door was locked. The main bath was okay, there is a sauna and cold plunge pool. The front desk were very polite, efficient and could speak basic English.
