Location: It's very close to the main street, within a 10-minute walk to the county government office."

Kempinski Hotel Taiyuan is located in the south commercial center of Taiyuan, many of the city's best shopping centers are all within walking distance, also with easy access to the Shanxi International Expo Center and Shanxi Sports Center, 7 km to the South Railway Station and 12 km to Wusu International Airport.
"The hotel's location is good. Although it's a bit old, it still has all the hardware facilities expected of a five-star hotel. Let me focus on the most unpleasant service experience this time. We booked a family room, which included three breakfasts. Our child had an upset stomach the night before and was throwing up and had diarrhea all night. So, in the morning, only the two adults went to eat, thinking of getting a takeaway box for the child. This is where the unpleasant experience began. The person in black, who seemed to be a supervisor at the restaurant, said that if we had already started dining, takeaway boxes wouldn't be provided (at this point, we thought we only had two breakfasts included). Later, after checking the order, we confirmed that the family room included three breakfasts. We went back to the restaurant reception to ask for a takeaway box, clarifying upfront that our room included three breakfasts and that we wanted to pack something because our child was unwell. Even then, the front desk staff said that after 6:30 AM, it's recommended to dine in, and takeaway boxes are generally not provided. She also claimed it was busy and she couldn't authorize it (even though there were no guests waiting at the front desk at that time) and that only the supervisor could approve it. I had to wait for her to call the supervisor over again before I finally got a takeaway box. Throughout this entire process, both of them had cold faces and showed absolutely no service意识 (service awareness). This definitely deserves a negative review!!!"

"Traveling to Yuncheng with my elderly parents, this hotel offered excellent value for money. The welcome fruit, snacks, and mini-fridge beverages were replenished daily and were all complimentary. There was even a list in the room of items you could borrow. The hairdryer was definitely a hit for those with long hair. The hotel proactively contacted me beforehand to inquire about room preferences and helped arrange rooms on the same floor. The front desk service was also spot on. We ate dinner at the hotel restaurant for three consecutive nights, and my parents were very satisfied. My only suggestion would be that if Yuncheng ever becomes a smoke-free city, it would be great if the hotel could have a few completely smoke-free rooms equipped with smoke detectors and sprinkler systems."

"This stay exceeded my expectations. The hotel just opened this year, so everything is brand new and spotless. Both the public areas and the rooms are very comfortably designed. The service throughout was excellent; check-in at the front desk was efficient, and any requests were promptly handled. Breakfast was a delightful surprise with delicious dishes and fresh ingredients. The minibar was replenished daily, which was a great touch! I especially want to commend the bedding – the mattress was just right, not too soft or too firm, and the duvet and pillows were incredibly soft, ensuring a perfect night's sleep. Overall, everything was outstanding and I highly recommend it to everyone."

"When I visited Mount Wutai, I was torn between booking the Marriott or a guesthouse. My main concern was the Marriott's distance from the scenic area and potential inconvenience. However, I ultimately chose the Marriott for its reputation for excellent service. After checking in, all my worries disappeared! Every morning, there are three scheduled shuttle buses that go directly to the central scenic area. If you miss one, it's no problem at all; the hotel's electric car will take you to the Route 8 bus stop anytime. When you return, just call the hotel from the designated stop and they'll pick you up immediately. It was incredibly convenient and I was very satisfied. The food at the hotel restaurant was also delicious. All in all, it exceeded my expectations!"

The dining management on the hotel's 2nd floor needs significant improvement. We ordered five dishes for dinner; we finished the first two, but the rest were nowhere to be found. Three tables next to us, who arrived 5-10 minutes after us, had already finished their meals and some had even left. After we repeatedly urged them, our remaining dishes finally arrived, including dishes like knife-cut noodles. Others who arrived later had finished theirs before we even got ours. I have photos to prove this. Honestly, this aspect completely falls short of the hotel's overall standard."

"Self-driving tour, I wanted to live in Wutai Mountain Scenic Area, but after the tour, I felt that it was really great to live here. The car was parked downstairs, which was very convenient. , Living in the mountains is far from the hotel, driving parking spaces are difficult to find, and those who do scenes have to run with their luggage. "Had a fantastic stay! We booked the 'sky-light room,' which was very quiet, allowing us to sleep soundly until morning. The front desk attendant was incredibly warm and helpful; she brought ice packs for my wife's sprained ankle and even lent us a charging cable. The room was great, and the underfloor heating kept it very warm. The courtyard (siheyuan) is absolutely beautiful. The underground parking was also very convenient. The service was excellent. I didn't use my car for two days, so leaving wasn't the smoothest. I had to rush to Yungang Grottoes and left before 7 AM, getting a bit delayed at the entrance. The parking fee was 100 RMB (even though there was a free parking voucher, it didn't link successfully), but the owner paid it for me. This is a very responsible establishment, and both the owner and the housekeeper are wonderful. The location is super convenient, and the breakfast is incredibly delicious. Many thanks!

Communication with the owner was great right from the start of the booking [thumbs up]. The recommended local dishes were excellent value for money, and they even kindly reminded us about discount offers. The directions to attractions were very clear, and the tour guide they arranged was incredibly professional. Learning about the ancient city's history made the trip truly worthwhile! The courtyard was very clean, and you could tell every plant was carefully tended to. The room furnishings were also very tasteful, and the facilities were complete. Loved it!! Although we were only here 2 nights, this was one of our 2 favorite stays of our 2 weeks in China. We’re loved it here. This hotel was just what I was hoping for. Traditional courtyard hotel. It’s beautiful! We felt like we were in a movie. It was so relaxing. Both mornings I just relaxed on the swing in the courtyard and enjoyed the peace and the environment. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Helen was very nice and helped us with any questions we had. The room was clean and beautiful. I will say you need to be prepared for a very firm bed - but that’s the style and party of the experience, This was one of our favorite parts of our trip. If we’re fortunate enough to have the chance to come back, I will definitely stay here again. I highly recommend.

This guesthouse boasts a wonderfully elegant ambiance and a truly superb location. Stepping out, you're right on Gulou East Street, perfect for exploring, and Southeast Yi is just a few minutes' walk away. Despite its bustling street location, the guesthouse's courtyard offers surprising tranquility. We slept soundly through the night and woke up naturally, completely undisturbed. The owner and the housekeeper were incredibly thoughtful and attentive. They were always ready to answer any questions, from before our arrival until our departure, and their responses were always very detailed. Every day, the housekeeper would kindly ask us what time we'd like breakfast the next morning, and at the agreed time, she'd even come to our room door to let us know it was ready. I absolutely adored it!!! If I ever visit again, I would definitely choose Yishui Street.

Extremely happy with my stay here! Room is very spacious and clean, and I was within walking distance to most of the attractions and restaurants. The staff here are very friendly and they always went out of their way to make my experience in Datong memorable! I'm especially grateful because the manager showed me how to order food from local restaurants using my phone and get it delivered straight to my room! 10/10!!

The place is very clean, and the environment is really cozy, making for a very comfortable stay. The shower pressure is fantastic, I'm very satisfied, it's such great value! The staff (specifically, a young lady) was very welcoming and even thoughtfully prepared breakfast for us. Five-star recommendation!

Allow me to share my honest experience at this hotel in Datong: On the 9th day of my Shanxi trip, I caught a cold in Shuozhou. Upon arriving in Datong that evening, I chose to stay at Yunzhong Chaoran Pavilion. Just before going to bed, I noticed the bed frame making creaking noises. I contacted the butler, who explained that rosewood furniture can sometimes expand in the summer, causing friction and noise. As soon as the butler learned I had a cold, without a word, he immediately offered me a complimentary upgrade to a duplex room. He didn't leave until I confirmed that the new bed was silent. I had such a restful sleep that night. At breakfast, the waitress proactively asked if my cold was getting better and prepared ginger brown sugar tea and a light dinner for me. When she saw that I had a delivery person bring a bucket to soak my feet, she asked the kitchen chef to cut some ginger for me, suggesting I boil it to soak my feet to dispel dampness and cold. She also told me to rest for a while after soaking and not to rush checking out. This was the most touching day of my 10-day trip. Datong is truly magnificent! The people of Shanxi are genuinely simple and kind. The room's facilities were impeccable. If you're visiting Datong, I wholeheartedly recommend this place!

The room layout was sensible, with one large bed and one 1.2-meter smaller bed, plus two bathrooms. It's very suitable for families with children. The room was clean, with a separate wet and dry area, and the bathtub was a nice touch for families with kids. The robot service was a big hit with the children. Service: The service could use some improvement, for example, helping with luggage when entering and leaving, providing children's bathrobes and toothbrushes in family rooms, and offering welcome fruits.

On my trip to Datong, I booked a stay at the Howard Johnson Jindi Plaza Datong, located right by the ancient city, through Trip.com. It's rated 5 stars online, and it truly lives up to the hype! As soon as I checked in, I was upgraded for free to a deluxe business suite. It was my first time seeing a suite with a dining table big enough to host over 10 friends and family. After one night, I switched back to my originally booked business king room. The king room was also incredibly comfortable, measuring a spacious 62 square meters. Opening the curtains revealed views of Datong's streets. If you walk to the end of the corridor, you can even see a panoramic view of the ancient city of Datong. What truly stands out is the fantastic Chinese restaurant at this 5-star hotel. I stayed in Datong for three days, and除了one lunch I had in Hunyuan Ancient City, all my other five lunches and dinners were enjoyed at the hotel's Chinese restaurant. Here, a bowl of Shanxi's specialty knife-cut noodles is only 6 RMB, and a bowl of cold noodles, even tastier than those in Hunyuan, is just 3 RMB. You can order half portions of shumai, and during the first dog days of summer, they even had dumplings. I tried the braised deer tendon with scallions, something I'd never had before, and it was superb, as were the husband and wife lung slices and jellyfish salad – perfect with drinks. Dining here is delicious and affordable. If you top up 200 RMB, you even get a complimentary plate of Shanxi's signature 'guoyourou' (fried pork in sauce). A huge shout-out also goes to the restaurant staff. They are warm, thoughtful, and genuinely care for guests, even advising against ordering too much, ensuring just the right amount! In summary, I give a 5-star rating to both the hotel and the F&B department. The last photo is of the hotel's breakfast, which was also excellent. The hotel has two breakfast restaurants, so even with many guests, it never feels crowded!

Fantastic stay. Staff provided impeccable service and advice. The tour suggestions were on point and proactive (e.g. informing us that light showers were forecasted and they had readied umbrellas if we needed them). Most of the staff was fluent in English. Rooms were clean and nicely appointed. Smart use of the different courtyards meant that rooms are very private and that, overall, it was very calm and serene. The property is located centrally near one of the major intersections within the old centre and most points of interests can be reached on foot in 20-30 min. If you are travelling with heavier luggage, then the hotel provides transport against an additional charge. The cost (150 RMB per way from/to the high speed train station) is well worth the money as you get dropped off just outside the pedestrian area (but within the city walls) a few hundred meters from the hotel and staff arranges for the luggage to be brought to the hotel. Taxis can’t drive that far into the old city.
