"The location itself is practically impossible to get to without a car. Parking is conveniently provided, as it's exclusive to the ryokan. The surrounding atmosphere is very satisfying. However, you'll need to rent everything from towels to yukatas at the ryokan. Breakfast is simple. There's a nearby place offering free sulfur hell steaming, so you can just buy eggs and cook them yourself (50 yen). You can also make other sulfur-based dishes if you'd like! I was disappointed that there was only one hot spring, and the water wasn't particularly special.
Overall... Spend more and go somewhere better."

"The hotel is located on the plateau plains, with fresh air and beautiful scenery nearby. However, the location is relatively remote and suitable for self-driving travelers. It is very close to Aso Volcano.
I stayed in the new hotel. Because it had just been renovated, the room was relatively large. The decoration of the room was very new and the layout was simple. The scenery outside the balcony was beautiful. It was a comfortable stay.
The front desk clerk is a foreigner, easy to communicate with and polite. When I asked if there was a room with a private hot spring pool that we could upgrade to, the waiter took the initiative to arrange a family bath for me to enjoy for free during our designated time period. This Very thoughtful.
The buffet dinner and breakfast provided by the hotel were average. The food was not rich in variety and not hot enough. This was the only thing that disappointed us."

"The resort location is accessible actually by bus from tateno 立野 station and the last bus is in the evening you may check the timetable online. We did not drive and leaving the accommodation is less convenient because all taxis were booked out but the staff was very friendly as to driving us to the nearby train station to continue our journey to Aso Volcano.
Service was good. The private onzen was amazing and we were able to use it for one hour. The public bath was good too but the amenities they provided inside were not as enough, eg they don't have comb for ladies and make up removing pads. Other than that, cleanliness was amazing and staff were friendly, rooms had amazing Mountain View's."

"It was the best part of my trip to Fukuoka, Aso, and Kurokawa. If you have a rental car, I highly recommend it! It's about 6 minutes from Kurokawa, so it's not that far, and it was a great place to feel nature and experience Japanese traditions rather than the bustle of Kurokawa. Here, I experienced two famous places in Kurokawa: open air, and my whole family said this was the best. It was a fun time at a house like Totoro Forest :)"

"The hotel room has a great view, which makes me feel really relaxed. The hot spring is open until 11:00 p.m., which is perfect for unwinding. The only downside is that there’s no bathroom in the room, so you’ll have to use the public bath. If you can’t make it to the hot spring at night, there won’t be any other place to take a dip, so that’s a bit of a bummer. On the bright side, there’s a golf course right next to the hotel with a beautiful environment. Lots of locals and tourists come to play golf there. The room is also really big and comfortable, so you’ll feel like you’re sleeping in the sky."

"Room was comfortable and hotel had nice common spaces. Sink design a little bit tight. I chose a room with a mountain view but it was severely limited. As I was only staying one night, I didn't bother too much about it.

"Nice little cottage. As some reviews shared, location is not close to town which was expected. The friendly couple at check in and process is smooth even when they don’t speak English. Did not realise the amenities was without towels and tried to knock on their office past 9pm to ask if they are able to provide but there was no answer. Had to live without towels for the 1 night I was there unfortunately."

It is best to book on the official website yourself. The agency is too bad. The service of the hotel is excellent. The hotel is in Kurokawa Onsen. I am a free traveler and do not drive myself. The transportation is inconvenient. There is no train, only bus, and there are only three buses a day. The Kurokawa Onsen bus station is an unmanned station with no toilets, no taxis, and no business. Based on some common sense about the inconvenience of transportation in the secret hot spring, I asked Ctrip customer service to make an appointment for the station the day before, and was told that there was no pick-up service and I had to walk there myself. At that time, I felt that it was wrong. Apple navigation said that it was 20 minutes away. As a result, I was dumbfounded when I arrived at the station. I contacted the hotel myself. The front desk did not speak English well. He asked me where my name came from and immediately knew that he sent a car to pick me up. When I arrived, the driver bowed and apologized to me. It took 5 or 6 minutes to drive to the hotel. It was all uphill without signs. When checking in, the hotel staff said that they wanted to ask me how to get to the hotel, but the agency was a landline and no one answered. The hotel has always had a pick-up service. The main reason for coming to Japan is that I like the enthusiasm and uncompromised service. In short, Gekkoju is worth a try and I will come again. The water quality of Kurokawa Onsen is well-deserved. There are also high-quality hotels such as Takefu. It is up to you to choose a budget. They are all quite good, but it is too deserted and the transportation is inconvenient. There are no convenience stores or coffee shops, only two or three restaurants. If you want to stay a few more days and stay in a few more hotels, you don’t know where to go after checking out at noon.

CChuck ChuangI love the interior of this resort. The staff members are really friendly and helpful. I had little knowledge in selecting local onsen resort, so my initial expectation was not high. Much to my surprise, I love everything this hotel has had. Facility wise everything looks brand new. The room is spacious and comfy. The public bath and indoor onsen are big and clean.
As for the meals, the presentations were good and they were delicious. I have no complaint about it. Keep up with the good work. Look forward to staying there again.

HHJHKPros- spacious villa, quality bedding and large private indoor onsen( see picture 13). We also like the public outdoor onsen in the sister ryokan nearby. There is a little cafe there you can buy drinks and coffee, run by an adorable old couple, very nice and polite. We spent a lot of time there just chilling and listening to the music.
Cons-
Living room: we were only able to book the western style villa as it’s a little last minute trip. The living room is basic, bland, with sofa, instead or tatami. Our room 512 is next to the car park. Parking lot in front of your main door is not very pleasant.
Food : just soso. Nothing extraordinary. See picture. No horse sashimi, the presentation of the steak is really ordinary - disappointing. Perhaps because we had such an amazing meals in the previous ryokan this became a massive letdown.
Dinner served in a large public dining room, lack of the privacy and intimacy ther ryokan provide ( we had private dining room in another ryokan 野之花during this trip). I got to see other couples but also feeling like we are being watched.
Service- served by young people, not much attentiveness you would expect in traditional ryokan, lack of the warmth and ritual.
Reception- 3 star at best. A basic room with uncomfortable chair while you wait to be checked in. We arrived around 2:30pm, and was told that check in can only start at 3pm, and please wait. So we sat at the hard chair and forced to watch the promotional video until 3pm.
Conclusion - 3.5 star ryokan, not the most exciting or exclusive villa we have stayed. Maybe it would get better once the trees grow thicker and staff better trained. The sister Ryokan nearby has better feel of environment and feels more established.

GGuest UserIs this spa hotel well equipped? The room facilities are very thoughtful and in place, there is a private hot spring in the room, which is very comfortable. The staff is cordial and hospitable. They took the initiative to introduce the surrounding environment, and there was a row of people relaxing and feeding the ducks for free, which was really interesting. The breakfast was delicious and rich. The staff was very considerate and knew that my grandma didn't eat fish, so they replaced her breakfast with fried chicken. I will stay in this hot spring hotel next time.

VVarnTeingKurokawa onsen was the highlight of my trip to Kyushu. So I splurged on this accomodation. I chose a room with river view and it was the best decision. Love the stay so much.
Staffs were lovely and helpful. They speak good English and Mandarin. Lobby was spacious. Plenty of spaces to chill and chat as a family.
The onsens were abundance to choose from.
Breakfast was awesome, so was dinner.
We got the room with 2 beds and 2 futons. We all enjoyed our stay so much

There are 5 bathing seats in the large bathing area, which is slightly insufficient. When we take a bath, there is a shower head that is broken. It can squeeze one for 2 people. The girl behind has to wait for the family room. It is enough for one person, and up to 2 small couples are crowded. There are many pools in the big bath, and there is a mixed soup that can see the waterfall by the river. The scenery is good. The hotel is a bit far from the main hot spring road. I walk slowly. We arrived on a rainy day with our bicycles and were so happy about the cozy tiny wooden house and a warm shower. We had an amazing view of the mountains and the shrine and it was even possible to make a campfire infront of the little house. It is a magical place. Also there are many cute and friendly cats. We would defenetly visit again!
