"We decided on Kievets Kroon for a mid-week couples break. Neither of us had been before but it fitted our requirement of being close to Jhb. All the buildings are Cape Dutch style, painted white, with thatch roofs providing an imposing backdrop to beautifully manicured gardens notwithstanding the middle of winter weather. We were welcomed warmly from the entrance gate to our room. The rooms are in various clusters around the property and provide a variety of options to suit different requirements. We had upgraded to an executive room situated in the new block which was close to all amenities. The room was what one would expect from a 4* hotel - it was comfortable and reasonably spacious but no WOW factor. The buffet breakfast with hot egg counter was well presented and there was no shortage of food. A variety of specialty coffees was also available. We only ate dinner at the Kingsley restaurant which was very pleasant. We had the signature his / her treatment in a well-appointed Spa. The spa facilities are impressive but somewhat spoilt by a crowd of ladies that dominated the hot tub to the exclusion of anyone else. The actual treatment we would rate as average. We had a picnic lunch on the one day which was very well presented under the shade of a beautiful tree. On top of a hearty breakfast, the picnic was too much, and we could have easily gotten by on one basket for both of us. There is no gym or decent walking trail on the property, so we took a morning off to go to Wolwespruit - about 25 minutes away - which offers running / walking trails in a clean, safe environment. We had one gripe which was that housekeeping did not remove the room service tray which was outside our room for +24 hours and only removed once we had pointed this out to reception. The winter chills prevented the external pol from being used and thus it was too cold to laze round the pool. I would think that the main revenue stream of Kievets Kroon is its conferencing capacity which is substantial. All in all, a pleasant enough stay but if we went again, we would stick to summer."

"Very pretty hotel but if you use a wheelchair forget this one, it’s a nightmare not at all properly accessible. Restaurant up a flight of 12 stairs. Steps up to the ground floor room. Plus service really awful, management really don’t give a s**t and my husbands steak was inedible. Our pickup the following morning was much earlier than our itinerary stated with no explanation given. When we got home we complained and basically the hotel said we were lying!!!!! Great customer service NOT."

The room looked clean and cozy at first, but I quickly discovered the bed was extremely uncomfortable - it was overly firm and too short. The shower had no happy medium temperature - it was either too hot or too cold. The ac put out a bad, musty smell. My room was in the main hallway and it is extremely noisy in the evenings from the bands and parties. The breakfasts and room service were excellent and some of the staff were lovely and professional, but some were not. Unfortunately it was overall negative enough that I left halfway through my week, with no refund."

"From the arrival I had an amazing experience from welcoming to being pleasantly surprised and mesmerised by the beauty of the old vintage building. The room small but cozy. It has everything I needed for an overnight stay. What would have been ideal would to have the WiFi details as part of the welcome back but instead I had to request it. All that said, each time I stepped foot in the dining hall for supper or breakfast the experience changed for the worse. Although greeted with an amazing chandelier and a very beautiful garden, the hosting staff are clearly inexperienced. I had a pretty much a half a plate of food for R300 as the person did not offer a A La Carte menu even when asked so I had to join the buffet line which in itself was lacking. As I was not booked for supper included in my stay I had to pay the exorbitant amount for barely a plate. When I confronted they said I could have used the A La Carte menu. For breakfast I was first in line and had to wait over 5 min for the hot station staff member to arrive. When I placed my order of 2 over easy eggs, I was told to have a seat they’ll bring it. Over 20min later where several others have received their complex omelettes, I was yet to receive my 2 simple eggs. In the meantime my prepped toast has gone cold and tough. As the title says, all is good but the dining area."
