"Baien is truly the best. The private open-air bath and the large public bath are both excellent. (Note: Be sure to confirm the private open-air bath when booking your ryokan stay.) The ryokan is spacious, so walks around the property are lovely. Both breakfast and dinner (kaiseki) are also superb. However, there's no entertainment nearby, so if your sole purpose is to enjoy the hot springs, you definitely won't regret it. I'd love to visit again in winter."

"The owner and staff were incredibly friendly, which I really appreciated. I was also amazed that the meals offered during our two-night stay were all different, with no重複ing ingredients! We could freely use the open-air hot spring right in our private villa, and the family bath was also exclusive to us when in use, ensuring a private and enjoyable experience. The pick-up and drop-off service to Yufuin Station made getting around very convenient, so the accessibility was great. "This boutique ryokan, featuring just 11 rooms, is situated a convenient 5-minute drive from Yufuin Station in a peaceful, rustic residential neighborhood. Our spacious, well-maintained ground-floor room featured a private onsen and offered excellent views of Mount Yufu. For those interested, the communal onsen can also be locked for private use and is kept very clean. The staff is accommodating and polite, and the breakfast and dinner provided in the dining area are outstanding. Complimentary parking is available, and the aromatic tea burner in the room was a very pleasant detail."

"It was evening when we arrived, and there wasn't much service, just a simple check-in. The room was quite old, but it's very convenient because it's close to the station, about a 10-minute walk. The roads in Yufuin are narrow and uneven, so pushing luggage was tiring, which made even a 10-minute walk feel long. The value for money isn't great; it's old and small, and everything inside looks like it's from the 90s."

"This hotel was definitely the best one of our trip! The environment is superb. The absolute highlight was their Sukiyaki dinner with Wagyu beef included – that Wagyu was absolutely divine, incredibly tender and melt-in-your-mouth. The hot springs were also amazing, no complaints there. The only downsides were that the bedroom wasn't blackout and not soundproof. I was woken up by the light and the birds chirping in the morning."

"I booked the most expensive room. Upon arriving in Yufuin, I called to request a shuttle bus. The bus arrived quickly, in just 5 minutes. The staff member who picked me up was very friendly and chatted with me, introducing the area around Yufuin. After arriving at the hotel, the staff also kindly helped with my luggage and provided information such as meal times, using a little English to help me understand. After a quick check-in, they took us to our room and explained all the facilities and how to use them in great detail. The hotel also thoughtfully provided various toiletries, and there were even different styles for men and women! The room was very luxurious and fully equipped, and the private onsen (hot spring) was very comfortable. The dining service was also excellent, and the food was delicious, especially the beef. We initially chose hot pot, but later wanted to switch to sukiyaki, which they quickly arranged. Overall, the quality was very much in line with the price. There were only two drawbacks: First, the room didn't provide a microwave or kitchenware. The heating service only lasted until 9 pm, which was relatively early, so we couldn't enjoy a late-night snack. However, this might be due to the locals' schedule. Second, the only kitchen utensil provided in the room—the kettle—was extremely dirty, as if it hadn't been washed in ten years. This prevented me from cooking instant noodles, and the hotel is also quite far from the city center. These are minor drawbacks, which bothered me a bit as I enjoy Japanese convenience store snacks, but they are insignificant compared to the overall quality of the hotel. I would definitely stay at this hotel again next year."

"The environment was great, the food was delicious, and everything was perfect. It was also a great way to enjoy the outdoor family hot springs with your partner or spouse. If the weather is nice in the evening, you can even see the stars."

"Very good, excellent service, I lost my wallet and they found it for me. The bath was very comfortable, but it was a pity that private baths could not be booked. The public bath was very beautiful and the environment was quite good."

"The Sunshine Room has its own private outdoor hot spring bath, and the bedroom features a tatami-style setup. Check-in is self-service; the host provides a password for the electronic door lock. The place is very clean and comfortable overall, and there's a free washing machine available for use. It's a short walk to Lake Kinrin. The only downside is that the accommodation is hard to find; it's located down a small alley, which then turns into a tiny dead-end street. The parking space at the entrance isn't very large. There's a signpost in one of the photos below; when you see it, turn left, go past two small alleys, then turn right, and you'll see it. Due to our itinerary, we only stayed one night this time, but we hope to stay for a few more days next time."
