Gorgeous old family estate turned Hotel/Guest House. Spacious and comfortable room. Perfect location to come back to after driving around exploring the Scottish Boarders.
Breakfast service was lacking in its service. Young and inexperienced staff spent too much time standing around doing nothing instead of ensuring the buffet was stocked, used dishes cleared off tables, or even tables set for guests.
A walking holiday turned to a nightmare when my wife was taken acutely ill and ending up in hospital, first in Melrose and later in Edinburgh. I needed a place to stay and happened on the G and A.On relating my tale to Dawn she ordered me to sit down, brought me a cup of tea and biscuits, said of course there was a room and to stay as long as needed. It was such a relief to have matters settled so easily and with such sympathy. I kept them updated on my wife's progress and eventual discharge from hospital. Both she and Graham made a really difficult time that much easier. Both of us will always be so grateful for all they did, way beyond the call of duty and at a time that due to Covid cannot have been easy for themselves
It really is outdated, compared to other spas and hotels of similar ilk. For instance I stayed at Dunked house, it was night and day. The staff are great but the place needs a lot of money spent on it. In our room 317 we hd a television that had half the screen darker than the other half, good thing we didn't go here to watch the telly. The pool area was nice but needs refurbed. The big steps taking you down the front are dangerous for elderly people, they are patched up and in a very, very, ”note the two very's” bad state to of affairs to say the least.
Would I stay here again, probably not till the place has been upgraded.
Looking at what I have seen of the hotel, this is going to take millions of pounds to do.
I enjoyed the archery, the wee girl was a great help.
To be fair the staff are lovely but things really need to improve on the hotel side.
We were offered an upgrade to a suite at a much reduced rate and accepted the offer. The room was huge comfortable and well equipped for a pleasant stay. However the room and bathroom looked as if they hadn't been used for a while. In need of an update and tired it also could have been cleaner. A bit disappointing.
On saying that the rest of the hotel was very clean, comfortable and welcoming. Staff were all helpful and friendly, and attentive. The food was excellent and the menus had a great selection to choose from.
I would definitely visit again, but as the standard rooms are more modern and comfortable I would ask to view any room before agreeing to any update
Lovely hotel with a great spa and beautiful overall. The restaurant was very good as well, although quite expensive. Our main disappointment was the change to the kids’ pool access policy. It used to include both a morning and afternoon slot, but children are now only allowed in the morning. It definitely gave the impression that the hotel is moving towards discouraging families from visiting the hotel. Unfortunately, the staff attitude reinforced this feeling. We were repeatedly reminded when our child needed to leave the spa, including being stopped well before the end of the allocated time to make sure we were aware of the cut-off. It just didn’t feel particularly welcoming or family-friendly. That said, it is probably a nice choice for couples looking for a quiet, child-free getaway and who are happy with the premium pricing (for example, around £15 for a glass of wine).
Hotels was great service was fab and food in restaurant great. Only thing missing is a jacuzzi in the spa. Our trip was spoilt by the reception charging us twice for our accommodation. Already paid via trip.com and then got home to discover the hotel had also charged directly. Despite informing Hotel of this error on day of departure, a week later and multiple tel call we still haven’t the money returned to our account. As a result we will not be returning as very poor post trip customer care!
I had a fantastic weekend at the Newcastle arms hotel, it was a welcoming and friendly environment, the staff were friendly enough, Michelle and Lorain went out of there way to make sure we were happy and catered for in every way there such lovely people. I would definitely stay again, the rooms are reasonable priced and it’s a lovely little village, there’s not much to do In the town but it’s lovely for a relaxing trip away, I would recommend to others.
Beautiful building set up high out of Hawick. Exceptionally friendly and helpful staff, great food in lovely restaurant. Basic bedroom was large, well-equipped with great shower room. Cleanliness10 out of 10. Will use again.
