"The room was very quiet, with ample spacing between rooms. The hotel breakfast was a delightful surprise—Japanese-style—with fresh sashimi, sweet shrimp, tempura, seafood rice bowls, and more, all served early in the morning. Refills were prompt, and the staff were quick and efficient in attending to each guest in an orderly manner. Additionally, there's an airport bus stop just 100 to 200 meters from the hotel, directly opposite Abest Hotel."

"This was my second stay here. It's super easy to get to from Sapporo Station; just take Exit 1 at Nakajima-Koen, cross the traffic lights, and you're there. They have a hot spring and breakfast, and even if you don't book breakfast, it's only 500 yen. The best part is the afternoon tea 🍵 – it's perfect for sipping coffee ☕ and relaxing. Definitely avoid the smoking rooms; they smell terrible and haven't been renovated. Plus, they're smaller than the single rooms and about 100 yen more expensive, which isn't worth it. However, the location is great for getting around on the Namboku Line (green line)."

"Out of the three onsen hotels I stayed at in Lake Shikotsu, Suizantei, which is popular online and hard to book, was actually quite average with no scenic views from its onsen. Then there was the extremely overpriced Aigashiro, which was even worse – no service, no ambiance. Marukoma was my last stay and also the cheapest. Reviews online were mixed, but seeing it was a century-old onsen, I wanted to give it a try. Turns out, it was the only one of the three worth visiting. First, the onsen views are the best because of its elevated location. I wouldn't recommend the wild onsen as it's unmaintained and the water is very cold. However, the outdoor public onsen truly offers fantastic views and a great panorama. And the view from the public cafe is incredibly comfortable; just sitting there and daydreaming is a pure delight! The rooms are just for sleeping, small, and without a view, but the previous two hotels weren't any better. Dinner, I think, was decent for the price! The ingredients seemed fresh, and it wasn't as bad as some online reviews claimed! Overall, Lake Shikotsu is worth visiting, and Marukoma is worth experiencing! It's an old brand, and the service is quite good! When we checked in, we casually mentioned needing a taxi the next day, and at breakfast, a staff member came to ask if we needed help calling one! That was really heartwarming! No discrimination whatsoever! The private paid onsen is also good! It's not expensive and I recommend trying it out."

"I almost gave it a perfect score - gave location only a 4 because there is no subway station nearby. But there is a bus stop for both local buses and the airport limousine. The hotel has a vintage feel but it was clean and the service was really superb. We were given a comfortable room for the three of us. Breakfast options were the same everyday except for the soup. It would have been nice if there was a variety for the fruits and desserts."

"This was my second stay here. I booked a large room, so the size was just right. Having two sinks in the bathroom is a fantastic design, and the hotel's close proximity to the JR station is very convenient. However, the hotel advertises Chinese-speaking staff, which wasn't the case during my stay. Not only was there practically no Chinese service, but many staff members also struggled with English, which was quite baffling. The in-room Wi-Fi signal was also poor; several staff members came to check but couldn't resolve the issue. Because of these points, I can't give a high rating. Overall, the facilities are well-equipped, which is why I've stayed multiple times."

"I can’t recommend this hotel enough – it was one of the highlights of our Hokkaido trip! The free shuttle bus service to and from Sapporo Station (both ways) made everything so convenient. No need to worry about taxis or public transport after a long day – just hop on and relax. Super thoughtful and saved us a lot of hassle. The decoration is beautifully traditional Japanese style – think elegant tatami rooms, shoji screens, and that authentic ryokan vibe. It felt very calming and immersive right from check-in. The onsen is absolutely superb! The water quality is excellent, the facilities are clean and well-maintained, and the views (especially the outdoor bath) are stunning – so relaxing after exploring Sapporo or Jozankei area. One of the best onsen experiences I’ve had. Breakfast buffet was a real treat: fresh Hokkaido ingredients shine through, with amazing seafood (uni, salmon roe, sashimi-grade fish), local veggies, and high-quality dishes. Everything tasted super fresh and delicious – perfect way to start the day. They even offer free hot wine and sparkling wine service in the evenings – such a nice touch! We really enjoyed sipping while unwinding. Honestly, I can’t say enough good things. Great value, authentic atmosphere, top-notch onsen, and thoughtful extras. Highly recommended! 🌸♨️"

"This hotel boasts an excellent location! Nakajima Park is right downstairs, and in the mornings, you can see many people walking their dogs and strolling around. Directly across the street is a Lawson convenience store, perfect for grabbing some bread and snacks to enjoy in the park, where pigeons and crows will come begging for food. The Nakajima Koen subway station is also right downstairs. It's just a three-stop, 5-minute ride to Sapporo JR Station, a major transportation hub. Alternatively, you can choose to walk there, it's only about 1 kilometer north. Plus, walking north takes you through Susukino, Sapporo's most lively district, then a little further north to Tanukikoji Shopping Street, Sapporo's best shopping area, and then even further north to Odori Park, Sapporo's central axis, before finally reaching Sapporo JR Station. I often went downstairs in the middle of the night when I was hungry, walking 10 minutes to Susukino for some late-night eats. The hotel itself is quite grand, truly living up to its 5-star standard, and the staff are very friendly and polite. The rooms aren't large, which is typical for Japanese hotels, but they are perfectly functional. There's a refrigerator in the room, so you can buy cold drinks and ice cream from the convenience store to store there and enjoy at night. However, you can tell the hotel is indeed old, having been built in 1964, with some areas showing signs of age. But the best part is that the price of this hotel was surprisingly affordable. For a 5-star hotel, I paid only 750 (yen) a night when I stayed in late August, which truly amazed me. Since I wrote this review on a computer, I can't upload a video here, so I'll just leave it at that. If I come to Sapporo again, I would definitely choose to stay here."

"Fantastic hotel! Breakfast starts at 6:30 AM, and there was a slight variation in the breakfast options over the two days. The room was incredibly spacious, with plenty of space to open multiple suitcases. The view was great, you could even see the Ferris wheel. Plus, it's just a few minutes' walk from the subway station."
