"A Wonderful Stay at Songzhuju Hotel! We stayed at the Songzhuju Hotel for 6 nights and were thoroughly delighted with both the accommodation and the city of Lijiang. Even before our arrival, we felt the genuine care from the staff. Ah Fei contacted us in advance and arranged a transfer from the railway station the day before check-in. Upon arrival, he welcomed us with a traditional tea ceremony and treats, gave us a helpful overview of the hotel, and shared useful information about the city via WeChat. Ah Fei was always available and ready to assist with any questions. In fact, the entire hotel staff was incredibly pleasant and friendly. The hotel itself is excellent. We loved its location within the Ancient City, not far from the North Gate. This made it easy and quick to walk out to the main road to catch a taxi (since vehicles are not allowed inside the Ancient City), while still being immersed in the old town atmosphere. Importantly, it wasn’t in the busiest tourist hub—there were no crowds right next to the hotel, and it was quiet in the evenings and at night. Our room was a two-level family room, very cozy, clean, with comfortable mattresses and pillows, crisp white linens, and daily housekeeping. We also liked the breakfast—a traditional Chinese set menu (not a buffet)—which was delicious and authentic. I’d also like to share some thoughts on Lijiang itself. Initially, we planned to spend only 4 days here, but due to issues with our hotel in Dali, we left it earlier and extended our stay in Lijiang—and we were so glad we did it! Lijiang is absolutely charming. Even 6 days weren’t enough to fully explore it. Beyond the obvious pleasure of wandering through the Ancient City, I highly recommend: - Trip to Jade Dragon Snow Mountain - Visit Tinghua Valley Lijiang Flowers—an incredibly beautiful botanical garden with fairy-tale views of Jade Dragon Snow Mountain - Visit Shuhe Ancient Town - Climbing up to Wangu Tower on Lion Hill in the Ancient City for sunset views. We explored all these places independently, booking DiDi rides and purchasing entrance tickets via Trip.com. However, if needed, Ah Fei can help organizing any tours. Also, if you’re not planning to continue toward Shangri-La, I strongly recommend taking a day trip from Lijiang to Tiger Leaping Gorge. The best option is the trek from Halfway Guesthouse to Tina’s Guesthouse (or Teacher Zhang’s Guesthouse). This hike was probably the most memorable highlight of my entire month-long trip to China—the views are simply breathtaking. In summary, we absolutely enjoyed both: the region and the hotel, where we were able to have very comfortable rest after busy days filled with excursions and long walks. "We stayed here for one niy, and it was absolutely incredible! They gave us the best room in the hotel, the views were simply breathtaking. This was hands down the best hotel of our entire trip, and we stayed at 10 different places across China! The room was spacious, spotlessly clean, and beautifully designed with huge floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the mountains and the lake . The service was outstanding. The staff were warm, attentive, and went above and beyond providing free shuttle service to the Old Town. The breakfast and afternoon tea were 😋"

"This was truly one of the best 民宿 experiences I have ever had. From the moment we arrived, the service was exceptional. Two gentlemen welcomed us warmly with smiles and immediately helped us carry our luggage, which included two large suitcases and two small suitcases, all the way up to Level 3. We were also given a complimentary room upgrade because a larger room was available, which was such a thoughtful gesture. After checking in, they patiently guided us through the room facilities and made sure we knew how everything worked. On the first day of our stay, they also prepared a beautiful fruit platter and tea for us, which made us feel so welcomed and well taken care of. Their service hours are from 8am to midnight, but what impressed us most was how much they went beyond that. Whenever available, they also had a driver who could send us to the nearby Lijiang Old Town, making our trip even more convenient and worry-free. The level of care and help they provided is honestly beyond words. They made our entire stay comfortable, smooth, and stress-free. Together with the beautiful scenic views, their outstanding service made us fall in love with Lijiang even more and truly made us want to visit again. On our last day, we had to check out at 7am, which was outside their usual working hours. Even so, the owner personally stayed at the counter and set his own alarm just to help us carry our luggage down. He did not have to do this, but he still went out of his way to assist us. He also helped arrange transport to take us to Lijiang Train Station, which made our departure so easy and comfortable. The service at this hotel is genuinely excellent. I almost have no words to describe how grateful we are for such a wonderful stay. This is the first time I am putting so much effort into writing such a long review for a hotel, and that says a lot about how amazing the experience was. If you are visiting Lijiang, I highly, highly recommend this 民宿. The service, hospitality, comfort, and overall experience are truly top-notch. "Our stay at this hotel was truly delightful. From the moment we arrived, the manager, Xiao Liew, made us feel right at home with his warm hospitality. He welcomed us with tea and shared his expertise on Yunnan tea, guiding us through the different varieties and helping us find ones we truly enjoyed. The staff throughout the hotel were consistently friendly, attentive, and eager to assist. The property itself was spotless, comfortable, and very well maintained. Its location is also a major plus—just a short stroll from Lijiang Ancient Town, making it easy to explore the surroundings. Xiao Liew’s recommendations for nearby dining were spot on. Each restaurant he suggested offered delicious meals that our family of three thoroughly enjoyed We are grateful to Xiao Liew and his team for making our stay so memorable. "What an amazing getaway! If you are more into nature and culture....THIS IS YOUR SPOT! It is tucked away inside Shuhe Old Town but you would never know. Once you get there, it is quiet. They are very proud to show you their gardens, their squirrels (they are well provided for), their cats, and what they truly enjoy. We were welcomed with drinks, fruit, and delicious buckwheat bread while we were introduced to the dining area and the movie and games area. Their menu is wonderful. Breakfast is provided and has a set menu of Asian versus Western (i had French toast one morning and pancakes the next) and then an extra section where you can also have yogurt with toppings, fruits, breads, coffee, etc. Other meals are ordered from the menu. The variety is wonderful and the taste and quality are worth it. After traveling throughout China for a few weeks, I really just wanted a burger. The Yak burger was amazing! WARNING: once you pick it up for the first bite, you must commit to it. There is no putting it down. My hands were just a joyous mix of meat juice, cheese dripping, pickle juice, egg dripping....luckily there is a restroom right there to wash up after. Our room was very cute, small, odd, but it worked for us and you could tell it would be cozy come the snow seasons-which we will return for. The odd part was the steps that lead down into the bathroom. I thought, oooo how fun! Not so much in the middle of the night if you are not used to it. But not all rooms have that so don't let that discourage you from enjoying this place. If you are finished walking Shuhe Old Town, there are more options. We decided to walk around the back of the garden. Following the trail, we wound up in a very beautiful park with water and bridges and places to sit. Eventually, we came out at one of the ends of Shuhe. Again, you would never have known because there was no interrupting noises to tell you otherwise. One of the days we took Didi to Baisha Old Town. Another must go! We spent a full day there and still did not finish. Even the rain didn't stop everyone from enjoying everything. Make sure you find the silk art school. It is tucked away but they have a wonderful program. I could do an entire blog on their contributions and empowerment for women but for now, just go enjoy and buy something, support them. Overall, we loved this place and will go back. We were not able to enjoy the mountain this time."

"I was a bit worried after reading some negative reviews before arriving, but after checking in, I felt it was pretty good. We booked a suite with our children, and the facilities inside were great and clean, with no musty smell. From check-in to check-out at the front desk, the staff were all very friendly. Whenever we called the front desk for a ride, the shuttle would come immediately! The hotel scenery is unbeatable, and the children's activities at the lakeside pavilion were plentiful. We didn't leave the hotel for two days, and the kids were constantly feeding alpacas and swans and fishing. The breakfast was rich but the taste was average. On the first day of breakfast, we were lucky enough to see the snow-capped mountains. Just for that view, I have to give it a 5-star rating. I will definitely come back to stay here if I visit Lijiang again. Personally, I think this is the best value for money hotel I've stayed at in Lijiang so far."
