Fantastic location, right on the Royal Mile! I booked the 12-person dorm, which turned out to be a bit too many people for me. Unfortunately, there was also someone with body odor. However, everyone else was very quiet. The common areas were clean and promptly tidied, with no unpleasant smells. This was my first hostel experience, and as a Pisces, I found it a bit challenging, mainly because I'm worried about disturbing others.

The location is excellent, very close to all attractions. The service was good; every staff member I encountered was smiling and very welcoming. The biggest problem was the strange, disgusting smell throughout the hallway and especially in the room. Despite ventilating the room every night during my stay, it still smelled fishy.

I stayed in a 6 people room with a private bathroom and shower. The room was very clean. Although I needed to make my own sheets, it wasn't a problem. The bed and sheets were very comfortable and there were no unpleasant odors. My family and I had a very pleasant stay, especially the bathroom, which was exceptionally clean.

Service was good enough and as per expectations of a big hotel brand. Nothing to complain about. The only complaint I have is about the amenities. There was no dental kit provided in the room and when requested for, I was asked to come down to the reception to collect it rather than have housekeeping deliver to the room. There was no single use slippers either and I had to pay £5 for it which I felt was pretty excessive for a disposable pair of slippers.. I paid for it anyway since I needed it. The staff were kind about it though and could do nothing as it was hotel policy. Hope Novotel can review its policies on the provision of these amenities.

The hotel's location is super convenient, and the facilities are brand new. Breakfast is semi-buffet style; you can grab cold items yourself, and hot dishes are à la carte – and they taste great! Parking is available right next to the hotel in their private lot for £20, and you can park for the duration of your stay. Definitely recommend it!

The location was generally ok, just was not prepared for the hilly nature of Edinburgh. It was roughly a 15-20 minutes walk away from the Waverley train station. On top of that, you could also walk to other iconic sites like the Edinburgh Castle, the Scott Monument, and Carlton Hill from the hotel while walking through iconic streets like the Victoria Street. Location wise I'd definitely say many attractions are highly accessible in walking distance from the hotel. The room was also clean and the staff were pretty friendly. One downside is that we did not get to try the facilities or food there so we cannot really give our opinions.

While the property itself is genuinely impressive — excellent location, comfortable facilities, and overall a place I initially enjoyed enough to extend my stay — the appalling conduct of one particular front desk employee rendered the entire experience profoundly disappointing. Upon my initial arrival, despite providing substantial supporting documentation regarding my identity, including official government verification and police documentation concerning my stolen passport, I was met not with professionalism, understanding, or even basic courtesy, but with extraordinary rudeness, inflexibility, and a deeply concerning lack of competence. Her behaviour was unnecessarily hostile, dismissive, and entirely devoid of the standards one would reasonably expect from anyone representing the hospitality industry. Fortunately, the evening staff demonstrated what proper customer service should look like: pragmatic, respectful, solution-oriented, and entirely capable of resolving the matter professionally. Regrettably, when I attempted to extend my stay, I was once again subjected to the same individual’s astonishingly poor judgement and apparent personal hostility. Despite prior successful verification and an already established resolution, she chose to create unnecessary conflict, ultimately escalating the matter to an absurd and deeply distressing level, resulting in police involvement and my removal in the middle of the night, despite having already arranged and paid accordingly. To be absolutely clear: the establishment itself deserves praise, but the presence of staff members who wield petty authority with such cruelty, inconsistency, and staggering unprofessionalism severely undermines its reputation. Management would do well to reflect carefully on whether individuals so lacking in discretion, empathy, and professionalism should remain in positions where guest welfare and brand reputation are entrusted to them. One exceptionally poor employee can undo the efforts of an otherwise excellent business. A truly regrettable example of how dreadful service can overshadow even the finest accommodation.

The location is fantastic, right on the Royal Mile in the heart of the Old Town. The facilities are a bit old-fashioned, but the staff are very friendly. Be aware that the reception can be a bit tricky to find, as it's directly across the street from the actual rooms. Considering it's a hostel, it offers pretty good value for money.

I really enjoyed my four days. Wonderful hotel the team was very friendly and helpful at all times of the day. Great location easy to get to from the Station/airport. Good trams service along Princes Street. Plenty of buses along South Bridge which is a short walk. Enjoyed the spa facilities especially the swimming pool. The lounge near the reception area is a little chilly but a nice spot to relax with a warm drink. Overall a very pleasant stay. Would recommend. Rooms Good size room, fantastic shower and products. Bed was very comfortable. It was a tad cold so I requested a blanket which was very snug. Bonus having a fridge and complimentary water nice touch. Tea/coffee try was good but would be great to have some hot chocolate. Nearby activities Holyrood Palace and gardens on your doorstep along with great views of Arthur Seat. Five minutes walk to the Royal Mile. Food and drinks There is a restaurant and bar in the hotel. I found the food a bit hit and miss to be honest. Breakfast is great with a great choice in food for all palettes. Warm friendly service.

Location of this place can’t be largely ignored at all. Just at the bottom of the stretch of Harry Potter restaurant! And just at the base of Edinburgh castle too. Amazing service
