Adorned with captivating artworks and sculptures, it feels like an immersive art space – a perfect blend of vintage charm and modern sophistication. Every corner speaks of prestige and refinement. Our room was incredibly comfortable and spacious, with exquisite design and meticulous attention to detail. Both the room's size and amenities were simply perfect. Breakfast is served on the second floor in the Western restaurant, which boasts expansive views. Every table offers a glimpse of the Suzhou Creek and the Bund, making it wonderfully comfortable and relaxing to enjoy breakfast by the window while watching the river. The only minor drawbacks were the slightly large gap under the shower door, which could lead to water spilling out if the showerhead was pointed incorrectly. Also, the buffet selection at breakfast wasn't particularly extensive, and there were limited bread options. However, the à la carte menu was quite good. Overall, our stay was very satisfying.

They gave us an ideal room with a view of the Pearl Tower! The service was excellent; they really went out of their way to help us due to our flight cancellation because of a typhoon. At the reception, there were Russian-speaking hostesses, and the local hostesses also spoke decent English. The rooms truly felt like heavy luxury! Everything worked perfectly. On the downside, breakfast was very specifically Chinese, you really had to pick and choose what to eat to avoid food you weren't accustomed to. Also, the hotel allegedly miscalculated our stay twice, increasing the cost retroactively each time. Another unpleasant detail is that booking this hotel through Trip.com is considered a pre-booking, and you will effectively be charged twice at the hotel itself, plus a deposit for your stay. The pre-booking amount will only be refunded a few days after checkout – just be prepared for this.

Finally checked into the J Hotel, Shanghai Tower, the world's tallest hotel! The entire experience was perfect, and I especially recommend their newly launched 'Nightfall Ceremony' – it completely exceeded my expectations! My butler invited me to the observation area just in time for the 'blue hour'. The skyline transitioned from soft orange and pink to deep navy as the Nightfall Ceremony gently began, creating an incredibly atmospheric ambiance. Below, the winding Huangpu River, the Oriental Pearl Tower, and the Bund's historic buildings stretched out before me. Watching the lights along both banks slowly illuminate, as the entire city awakened beneath my feet, was a breathtaking sight that left me speechless. Our room offered stunning views, and the decor was filled with exquisite oriental jade aesthetics. The toiletries and bedding were top-notch, and Eve Xiang's service was both discreet and attentive. This exclusive 'Nightfall Ceremony in the Clouds' perfectly blends Shanghai's romance and luxury. You absolutely can't go wrong coming here; every photo turns out like a masterpiece. It's already been listed as my most unforgettable travel experience of the year!

But when I arrived, I realized there was no need to worry at all. The overall vibe is one of rich heritage and understated luxury, without feeling old-fashioned. I personally loved it. **Hygiene:** The hygiene was excellent; I didn't notice any issues. **Environment:** Simply fantastic. Both the hotel itself and the guests staying there collectively create an atmosphere that made me feel it was truly great value for money. This is a hotel with genuinely sincere service and a superb location, well worth experiencing. I absolutely loved it.

You can directly access the North Bund promenade from the hotel's second floor, making it very convenient for a stroll. Breakfast is served until noon, allowing for a leisurely brunch, and the spread is extensive with good quality. The rooftop bar offers panoramic views of the Bund, though it's a bit warm this time of year. The room layout is well-designed and comfortable, but I'm not sure if it's due to the age of the decor, as the floorboards are slightly warped.

When I arrived late at night suffering from a severe cold, Arron didn't just point me to a pharmacy—he searched for an open one, walked me there at midnight, and translated everything so I could get the right medicine. The next day, he even checked in on me to ask how I was feeling and if I needed anything else. That genuine care is something I will never forget. 2. Silvia's incredible attention to detail (Saved my Invisalign!): I also want to give a massive thank you to Silvia. Amidst all the rushing and stress with a family emergency, I accidentally left my Invisalign retainers in a glass cup in the room. My family thought for sure they had been thrown away by housekeeping. When I called back, Silvia immediately checked and sent me a photo showing they were kept completely safe in the cup! Taking such care not to throw away personal items in glasses shows incredible delicacy and respect for guests' belongings. 3. Next-level facilities, room details & Circadian Lighting suggestion: The gym is great, and the self-service laundry features state-of-the-art washing machines with technology I had never seen before—it really shows how advanced China is right now! The spa looked beautiful and high-end (though a bit on the pricier side). The beds are extremely comfortable and a good size for four adults. Feature feedback / Tip on windowless rooms: The artificial window lighting in these rooms is fantastic because it genuinely looks like natural daylight! However, since the beds are so comfortable and the room can get pitch-black, it’s easy to oversleep when you want to wake up early to explore Shanghai. It would be an amazing feature if the hotel could automate these artificial light panels to turn on gradually with the sunrise to support guests' circadian rhythms! Conclusion: Wonderful modern facilities, a peaceful atmosphere, and most importantly, people like Arron, Silvia, and Tay who make this place truly special. Stepping into the room, I was immediately greeted by the towering 'Huangpu River Four-Piece Set' (referring to the iconic skyscrapers) outside the window. Sitting on the sofa, the Huangpu River unfolded before me like a dynamic scroll painting. The bedding was incredibly soft and delicate; I instinctively wrapped myself tightly in the duvet. The Aesop pine-scented amenities were elegant and long-lasting, perfectly matching the Waldorf's style. The walk-in closet was well-designed and practical. I had bought some 'Ice Beauty,' 'Goddess,' 'Pink Iron Cannon,' and 'Orange Dream' flowers, and was using the room's trash can as a makeshift vase. The thoughtful Nini noticed and kindly replaced it with a beautiful glass vase. 👍 Aaron and Katrina provided meticulous and attentive service. It was a great 4-day experience. I'll definitely be back.

Unfortunately, this stay was a sharp departure from everything I’ve come to love about the hotel, solely because of one check-in experience that left a very bitter taste. I had noted in advance during booking that I would prefer a high-floor corner room – not a demand, simply a preference that in the past has often been thoughtfully accommodated when availability allows. Upon arrival, I approached the reception and was assisted by Iris. I handed over my passport, and she confirmed the length of my stay. When I politely asked if a corner room might be possible, her response was cold and curt: she told me I had booked a regular king room, that she would not upgrade me, and that if I wanted such a room I should pay more. No smile, no warmth, no attempt to soften the refusal. It was less what she said and more how she said it – she made me feel embarrassed, almost as if I were being put in my place for even asking, as though booking a standard room somehow meant I couldn’t afford better. At a hotel of this calibre, I don’t think any guest should be made to feel that way. Still taken aback, I was then asked whether I wanted a room near the elevator or not. Already unhappy with the interaction, I said it didn’t matter. She then assigned me what can only be described as the worst possible room – directly next to the elevator on the 16th floor. When I saw the location, I was genuinely shocked. I went straight back down and told her I didn’t want to sleep next to the elevator, and she eventually moved me to a higher floor. Throughout the entire process, there was not a single smile, no “enjoy your stay” – nothing that even remotely resembled hospitality. I left the desk feeling like an inconvenience. It’s worth mentioning that based on the room rates and availability that day, the hotel was absolutely not fully booked, so this wasn’t a case of simply having no better rooms to offer. It felt like a deliberate lack of care, and it stung particularly because it came from a hotel where I’m used to staff remembering my preferences and quietly making each long stay a little more comfortable – not because I expect a free upgrade, but because that thoughtfulness is what makes a regular guest feel truly welcome. A standard room has always been perfectly fine; it’s the attitude and the willingness to accommodate small preferences that made me appreciate this place so much. This time, that spirit was completely absent at check-in. What makes this all the more frustrating is that every single other staff member I encountered – and there were many, too many to name – was excellent, friendly, and professional, just as I’ve always known them to be. One day during my stay, I had lunch at the lobby bar, and both the food and service were wonderful. On my departure day, I didn’t even bother with a formal checkout; I simply handed my key to the lady at the reception desk and left. The doorman was, as ever, kind and exceptionally helpful with my luggage. These are the people who reminded me why I keep coming back. I really do hope the hotel takes this feedback to heart. One person’s attitude at the front desk can undo months of goodwill built by an otherwise outstanding team. I’ll return, because I know what this hotel is truly capable of, but I sincerely hope my next welcome feels like a welcome again.

From the main entrance, you can take an elevator to the 11th floor where the front desk and the breakfast restaurant (right opposite the elevator) are located. After checking in, you'll need to use a different set of elevators, which are floor-specific, to get to your room. Cleanliness: The hotel rooms are clean and tidy. The breakfast was very rich, and I even saw many beautiful foreign guests. The executive lounge on the 44th floor offered a wide variety of delicious cakes. Definitely lives up to five-star hotel standards. Environment: The hotel is very close to People's Square subway station, making it incredibly convenient to get to Joy City Jing'an, Jing'an Temple, Jinqiao International Commercial Plaza, and the airport. From the hotel room, you can enjoy the stunning views of the Bund both morning and evening. After dinner, you can take a stroll along the pedestrian street to the Bund. There are many famous snack shops nearby, like Lailai Xiaolong, and restaurants such as Longyu and Warehouse No. 3, which are a must-try. Service: The staff are well-trained and very enthusiastic. The greeters proactively helped with luggage and took it to the elevator. The hotel is very responsive to guests' needs, even offering an upgrade, truly embodying five-star service. The complimentary fruit was especially delicious. I will definitely come back to this hotel again.
